Allah, Subhanahu wa ta’ala, says in the Qur’an, “I have only
created jinns and men, that they may worship Me”
(Surah Al Dhariyat 56).

helpers so that the teaching and learning can
process in an efficient and safe manner.

Establishes and sustains an orderly environment

Definition and Importance of
Classroom Management

Also includes:
The operations, practices, and control (procedures) of
activities allow teachers to teach and learners to learn.
a. Observance of the class schedule
b. seating arrangement
c. checking attendance
d. use of instructional materials
e. courtesies and discipline
Aspects of Classroom Management
Control of the physical conditions of the classroom
• appearance ( curtains, flower pots, flower vases, picture frames, fosters of Ahadeeth that teaches
learners proper akhlaaq and adab etc.)
• seating arrangement
• well arranged instructional materials
• pin boards.
• design of the classroom physical space
• proper hygiene/cleanliness and sanitation

“None of you truly believes until he wishes for his

“Let him who believes in Allah and the Last Day either

Courtesy in the classroom should be observed at all times.
The mudarris should be the model of courteous behavior.
In the classroom, the children should be trained to listen to
the one reciting, not only because the pupils have a message
to deliver but also and more importantly because it is the
polite thing to do.

• Discipline

The mudarris should not only take care of routine factors,


he has also to maintain good discipline/character in his
class to achieve good classroom management.

• The mudarris is responsible for his own class discipline.


• Effective discipline aims for self-direction.
• Self-control can be taught like any subject in school.
• Discipline to be effective, should be meaningful, sympathetic,
and humane.

a. The mudarris personal characteristics


(physical, mental, social, spiritual, and moral

(scholastic qualifications).

a. nature of the child (physical, mental, social, spiritual,


and moral aspects)(note: Learners are product of
heredity, training and environment).
b. unwholesome home environment
c. poor home training and upbringing desire for
attention
d. feelings of unwanted in the family
e. parent/s playing favorite among the siblings

Madrasah as a factor in discipline

(Role of every member of educational community to


improve the condition of the madrasah)

 Rooms that are properly ventilated, well lighted and


attractive can prevent many classroom disturbances.
 Lack of facilities and lack of suitable textbooks also
affect discipline.
Causes of Disciplinary Problems

The madrasah administrator is also a factor in


discipline

• Mudarris encounters disciplinary problems because


of unfortunate administrative policies, regulations, or
practices;
• Laxity in enforcing madrasah regulations can develop
bad habits among children.
Improving Classroom Discipline

• It is suggested that the best approach in improving


classroom discipline should be positive rather than
negative. The best measures should be preventive rather
than remedial.
• Common misdemeanors in the classroom like inattention,
talking or whispering can be minimized by giving special
attention to learners concern by the teacher through
greetings, short talks, compliments, acknowledgements,
smiles, and friendly eye contact.

Aggressive disorder:

• Should be dealt with positively. Among the desirable


measures suggested are personal conferences with pupils
and parents, giving pupils special responsibilities, keeping
everybody busy with wholesome activities, proper
motivation, use of devices.
• Less desirable measures include detention, demerits,
sending pupils to the principal, suspension, and assigning
menial tasks.

Aggressive disorder…

• Negative or ineffective measures which should be


avoided are sarcasm, threats, forced apology,
punishment of the group for the offense of one or a few,
embarrassment, name calling, humilating remarks, and
corporal punishment.
Incentives
• Positive notes/phone calls/feedbacks to parents.
• Special awards - from comments on papers to certificates.
• Special privileges - five extra minutes of a desired activity
for the whole class, choosing a friend with whom to work.
• Material rewards - posters, school pencils, popcorn.
• Home rewards - in collaboration with parents, privileges
can be extended at home. E.g. Reading a book can earn a
favorite meal.
• Group rewards - Preferred Activity Time.
In Muslim culture, Islamic Studies and Arabic language
classes have certain aura of purity. The sense of
orderliness and respect should be maintained, while at
the same time allowing learners certain degree of
flexibility to enjoy their stay in the class and make
learning fun, enjoyable and interesting.
