WHAT IS PARTITION WALL?

• Partition walls are designed as non- load bearing walls which are
vertical dividers that separate building internal spaces into rooms
and circulation areas like corridors.
• It may be of folding, collapsible or fixed type.
• Divide the whole area into a number of rooms.
• Provide privacy to the inmates from sight and sound.
• Are light in weight and cheaper in cost of construction.
• Occupy lesser area and are easily constructed in any position.

ADVANTAGES

• Used where space is constraint


• Thin
• Durable and strong
• Fire resistant (when using metal studs instead of timber wood)
• Easily installation (metal studs are joined together with timber wood or another stud then metal
lath or wire mesh is applied over the studs and are stick together with a nail or
screw when this is done plaster is applied over ).

DISADVANTAGES

• Over time, most houses naturally settle; when they do, plaster, which is hard and brittle, can
often crack. If the settling is substantial, chunks of plaster are likely to fall off the lath
framework.
• It’s difficult to retrofit lath and plaster walls with new wiring without cutting into the walls.
