OCCUPATION
THEY RELY ON NATURE. THEIR
PROFESSION IS H UNTING &
warrior. They practice jhum cultivation
which is the most common agricultural
tradition.
FESTIVALS
The common & regular festivals
are those connected agriculture
activities. The biggest among the
garo festival is the “wangala”,
which is a celebration of thanks
giving after harvest.

FOOD
The staple food of the Garos is rice. They
also eat millet,maize,tapioca etc. they rear
goat ,pigs,fowl,duck etc and ruish their
meat . They also eat other wild animal like
deer , bison etc . Fish ,prawns,crabs,eels
and dry fish also are a part of there food.
COSTUMES
THE PRINCIPAL GARMENT OF THE GARO
MEN IS A STRIP OF WOVEN CLOTH ADOUT 6
INCHES WIDE AND ADOUT 6 FEET LONG .
THEY ALSO USED VEST OF BLACK COLOUR
WITH LIVING AT ITS ENDS. GARO WOMEN
USE WRAP-AROUND KNOWN AS
DAKMANDA &a body cloth. The men were a
turban called kotip on the head but use head-bands.
ORNAMENTS
They used to carry ornament with rows
of white bead made of conch-shells
along the end of the flap.
LANGUAGE
A’CHIK IS THE STANDARD WRITTEN
GARO LANGUAGE IN INDIA AND
BANGLADESH.A’CHIK THE USED IN
GARO LITERATURE AND FOR THE
TRANSLATION OF THE Bible .
