The location of Malabar
Malabar Hill is located in the city of Mumbai, in western India. It
occupies the western prong of a forked peninsula, this western prong
is known as Malabar’s Point, which separates the Arabian Sea from
Back Bay. Malabar Hill rises to 55 metres above sea level and curves
to the north and west of Back Bay. The hill is the location of one of
Mumbai’s finest residential areas.


Malabar Hill has many neighbours. Some,
such as; Navshanti Nagar , Vasant Vihar,
Napean Sea Road, Mata Parvati Nagar and
much more, are the nearby locations
of Malabar Hill.
Malabar’s History
Who owned what?
 As of Malabar’s history it is said that the
prominent Keyi family of Northern Malabar in
Kerala owned many areas in Mumbai, including
the area which is now known as Malabar Hill
and some portions in Chowpatti beach area.
Who owns Malabar now?
 They had trade links with Portuguese, British
and French, but when British started creating
issues for their business benefits they made a
truce with the British and donated the entire area
to the English East India Company. Thus, the
area became English east India Company's
property.
Malabar’s Residential Areas
 Malabar Hill is one of the
prominent residential areas in
the city of Mumbai.
 Know as one of the most
expensive residential areas in the
world, Malabar Hills is home to
mansions of many celebrities as
well as the official residences of
the Governor and the Chief
Minister of Maharashtra.
 Malabar Hill is also famous for
some of Mumbai's most
prominent tourist destinations
such as Banganga Tank,
Walkeshwar temple, hanging
gardens
The City Layout
The older part of Mumbai is much built-up and devoid of
vegetation, but the more affluent areas, such as Malabar Hill,
contain some greenery; there are a number of open
playgrounds and parks. In the course of urban expansion,
some residential sections of malabar have fallen into a state
of serious disrepair. Moreover, an alarming amount of air
and water pollution has been generated by Malabar many
factories, by the growing volume of vehicular traffic, and by
nearby oil refineries.
