History of Data Processing

• The role of the electronic computer in data processing began with the
invention of ENIAC, followed by UNIVAC. In 1953, IBM produced the
first of its computers IBM 701 used for commercial Data Processing.
Different computers were designed for business data processing and
scientific data processing.
Computer
• A computer along with additional hardware and software together is
called a computer system. A computer system primarily comprises a
central processing unit (CPU), memory, input/output devices and
storage devices. All these components function together as a single
unit to deliver the desired output.

instructions per second.
