INTRODUCTION
• Woman plays a critical role in any society.
In many countries , the literacy rate is low
in case of women and in the developing
countries the rate is very low and in poor
countries the literacy rate of women is
worse. In case of women, even before
coming out of the womb of the mother the
discrimination starts and it continues till
their death.
STATEWISE LITERACY RATE
IN INDIA
• The literacy rate in India has been improved a lot, the most
literate state is Kerala with 93.91% where literacy rate of
female is 91.98% whereas the least literate state is Bihar
with 63.82% and here the female literacy rate is 53.33%.
Rajasthan has the lowest female literacy rate (52.66%) in
India. The female literacy rate in West Bengal is 71.16%.
While the other states like Puducherry or even Himachal
Pradesh has good literacy rate while states like Jharkhand,
Rajasthan has low literacy rate.
WHY SHOULD MORE
IMPORTANT TO LITERATE A
WOMAN THAN A MAN?
There are so many reasons for more
important to literate a woman than a man.
Such as:
• REDUCE MATERNAL MORTALITY
• IMPROVE SOCIO-ECONOMIC GROWTH
• REDUCE CHILD MARRIAGE
• REDUCE POPULATION EXPLOSION
• DECREASE MALNUTRITION
INCREASE INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICAL PROCESS
ADVANTAGE OF FEMALE
EDUCATION
• WOMEN WHO ARE EDUCATED – are less likely
to become victims of domestic abuse.
• WOMEN WHO ARE EDUCATED – reduce
corruption and change the conditions
that lead to terrorism.
• WOMEN WHO ARE EDUCATED - are better
equipped to contribute to the family
income.
• WOMEN WHO ARE EDUCATED – help
contribute and prosper their community.
REASON FOR THE FEMALE
ILLITERACY
• The literacy rate of women is much lower compared to men. In the Indian
society which is patriarchal, girls have fewer privileges and lower status
than boy.
• Gender inequality reinforces itself in education as it is factually proved that
the rate of literacy for women is 65.46% against 82.14% of men according
to 2011 Census. Census report also shows that the rate of literacy of Indian
women is even lower than the national average literacy rate that is 74.04%.
• Studies show too that the rate of unemployment in case of young females
belonging to the age group of 15-24 is 11.5% whereas for young males of
the same age group it is 9.8%.
