CREATING A NEW
DOCUMENT
CREATING A NEW DOCUMENT
A new blank document will appear together with
templates every time you open Microsoft Words. You
can select the blank document and start typing your
text on the blinking insertion point. There three
ways you can create a new document.
1. The first way us from the FILE MENU, click NEW and select from the
available templates such as Blank document, blog post, Report designs,
Birthday gift certificate or Search for online Templates.
2. The second way is from the Quick Access Toolbar, click the New
button.

3. The third way is press CTRL+N on your keyboard.

You can insert text within your typed document.

1. Click your mouse pointer on the location where you want your text
inserted.

2. Type your text on the blinking insertion.


DELETING TEXTS
 Five ways to delete a text.

1. Point the mouse pointer at the end of the text or sentences you want to
removed and press the BACKSAPCE on the keyboard.
2. Place the mouse pointer at the beginning of the text or sentences you
want to be removed and press DELETE.
3. Drag the mouse pointer in order to highlight the text or sentences you
want to be removed and press BACKSPACE.
4. Double click the text to highlight the word, then press DELETE or
BACKSPACE.

5. Triple click the text to highlight the sentence, then press DELETE or
BACKSPACE.
MOVING AROUND THE DOCUMENT
KEY FUNCTION
UP ARROW Goes up one line in the
document
DOWN ARROW Goes down one line in the
document
LEFT ARROW Goes to the left of the
document
RIGHT ARROW Goes to the right of the
document
You can also move around the document using specials
keys on the keyboard.

PAGE UP Goes up one page in
the document.
PAGE DOWN Goes down one page in
the document.
HOME Goes to the beginning
of the line.
END Goes to the end of the
line.
CTRL+HOME Goes to the beginning
of the document.
CTRL+END Goes to the end of the
document.
VIEWING THE DOCUMENT
T here are many ways to view your document. It
is important to know the different views so that you
will know what view to use to perform your task
easily and efficiently. To view a documents on
different form:
1. Click the document VIEWS SHORTCUTS at the bottom of the screen
which shows READ MODE, PRINT LAYOUT and,
WEB LAYOUT.

2. You can also click the VIEW TAB on the Ribbon and select from the
READ MODE, PRINT LAYOUT , WEB LAYOUT, OUTLINE VIEW
or DRAFT VIEW.
3. Click on the document view you prefer.

D.OUTLINE VIEW
E. DRAFT VIEW
KINDS OF VIEW
 READ MODE is a view that display your document in easy-to-read display
on the screen.
 PRINT LAYOUT is the default and normal view of the document
showing the Ribbon and Quick Access Tollbar.
 ZOOM allows you to increase or reduce the view of the
document.
 SPLIT allows you to view the top most part of the screen while
also viewing the other parts of a large document.

SPLIT LINE
 PRINT VIEW shows the document will look on the
printed paper.
 MINIMIZE reduces the document to a button size icon
at the bottom.
 RESTORE
Shows the document in a reduced view that
allows you to move worksheet by clicking and
dragging the pointer and resize the document
by dragging the arrows.
 BACKSTAGE VIEW
 Backstage view allow you to view the tools you need to open, save, print,
and work on your document all in one view.

1. click the FILE MENU to display backstage view.


2. Review the properties.
3. Choose the tools you will work with.
4. Click the arrow to close the Backstage view and return to the normal
view.
FILE PROPERTIES
SAVING the DOCUMENT
Microsoft word provides many ways to save a
document. It is important to know how each
function individually. New, edited, and opened
document may be saved the future use for a
succeeding action such as printing and
modifying.
SAVE COMMANDS
COMMANDS DESCRIPTION
Word Document Save the file as word document.
Word Template Saves the document as template that can be used to
format future document.
Word 97-2003 Document Saves a copy of the document that is fully compatible
Open Document Text Saves the document in the Open Document Format.
PDF or XPS Publishes a copy of the document as a PDF or XPS file.
Other format Opens the Save Dialog box to select from all possible
file types.
