USING THE FUTURE TENSE IN

ENGLISH
USING WILL

• Will is a modal auxiliary that can be used to express future tense in English.
• Will is used when we promise or have no evidence of a specific situation.
• I will go to London next year.
• I will call you tomorrow
USING WILL IN NEGATIVE SENTENCES

• To negate a sentence with will I have two options:

• I can use will not or won´t which is the abbreviation
• I will go there= I will not go there
• She will dance= She won’t dance
MAKING QUESTIONS WITH WILL

• To make questions with will we simple move the auxiliary will in front of the
subject
• She will dance= Will she dance?
• They will sing. = Will they sing
FUTURE WITH BE +GOING TO+VERB

• This kind of future is called immediate future. We use it when we are sure
that something is going to happen. We us it when we have evidence or
specific information that it is going to happen.
• The sky is overcast. It is going to rain.
• I am going to call you at 7:00 p.m.
• She has tickets to Los Angeles. Tomorrow she is going to be there.
TO MAKE SENTENCES IN NEGATIVE WITH
BE GOING TO

• Since this kind of future contains a verb to be, it follows all the rules of the
verb to be. So, to make negative we use the conjugation of the verb to be
according to the subject plus the Word not next to it.
• She is going to come tomorrow. = She is not going to come tomorrow.
• They are going to speak now= They aren’t going to speak now
TO MAKE QUESTIONS WITH BE GOING TO

• Equally, to make questions with be going to, we follow the rules of the verb
to be to make questions, so we place be in front of the subject.
• She is going to have a baby.= Is she going to have a baby?
• They are going to sing a song. Are they going to sing a song?
FUTURE PROGRESSIVE

• To use future progressive is rather easy. Followy the same rule to write
sentences in future tense=
• Subject+will+verb
• But in this case, after the modal auxiliary will incude be and add ing to the
main verb, so you will have the formula
• Subject+will+be+v+ing+complement
MORE ABOUT IT

• The be after will is not conjugated, it is always will be.

• Examples
• We will come= We will be coming
• He eats= He will be eating
• They study= They will be studying
HOW TO MAKE QUESTIONS WITH FUTURE
PROGRESSIVE

• Just simply write the will auxiliary before the subject and don´t change the
rest. Example
• He will be coming.= Will he be coming?
• They will be singing a song. = Will they be singing a song?
HOW TO MAKE NEGATIVE WITH FUTURE
PROGRESSIVE

• Tis is very simple. Add not after the auxiliary will.

• He will be walking= He will not be walking

• You can also abbreviate using won´t instead of will not
