256, ... form a pattern.

What is the rule for this pattern?

Forms of power of 10

Expanded form Standard form Exponential form

10 x 10 x 10 = 1000 = 10³
First, the form of the exponent

POWER
Here are a few powers of 10.

Can anyone see a pattern?

10¹ = 10 = 10
10² = 10 x 10 = 100
10³ = 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000
Can you explain why we use it?

10X3 = 10 + 10 + 10

10³ = 10 x 10 x 10
