M4NS-Ia-10.4
Quarter: 1 Week: 1 Day: 2
I. Objectives:
At the end of 50 minutes, 100 % of the learners are expected to:
1. Write the place value and value of a digit in numbers up to 50,000.
2. Name the place value and value digit in numbers up to 50,000.
3. Show awareness of being considerate to others in group work.

II. Content:
Subject Matter: Place Value and Value of a Digit Numbers up to 50,000
Integration: EsP ( Neatness, Orderliness and Cooperation )
English ( Reading and Writing the Place Value Correctly)
MAPEH ( Creativity )
Strategies: Brainstorming, Discovery Approach, Cooperative, Learning and Do-It-
Yourself
Materials: Meta cards numbers, Number Discs, Show me Board, Place Value Chart,
Activity Sheets
References: K to 12 Grade 4 Curriculum Guide 10-14, LM in Math Grade 4 pages 6 to 8

III. Learning Tasks:

A. Drill: Number Tag Game
Have a drill in the form of a game.
1. Distribute the strip of meta cards with the number 0-9 in each Learning Team

0 4
1 0
2 0 3 4

5 6 7 8 9
2. Using the set of numbers, pupils will form a number given by the teacher. The
number must be less than 6 digits.
23 362 45 012 15 744 29 508
3. The first group to form the number will be the winner.

B. Review:
What number can you form from the number discs given? Write in your show me
board.

1.. 10
10 10 000 100 10 1 1 1
100
000 0 0 00 0 1
1
2. 1000 100 10
10 10 1
100 0 1
000 000 100 1
0 10 1
1000 1
0

C. Motivation:
1. Why are smaller pupils seated in front and bigger pupils at the back?
2. Emphasize the Values Infusion of Being Considerate to the pupils. Let the
pupils realize that being Considerate to others is one important characteristics
of a person.
D. 1. Presentation:
Let the pupils work by Learning teams and distribute the following numbers in
each team.
Learning Team 1: Learning Team 2

13 547 : 30 411

Learning Team 3 Learning team 4

45 781 33 902

2. Performing Activity :
Have them group the number discs into 10 000’s, 1000’s, 100’s , 10’s and 1’s
Ask:
How many ten thousands are there?
How many thousands are there?
How many hundreds are there? Tens? Ones?
Have each Learning Team write the numbers in expanded form in the
the Show me Board.
E. Discussion:
Present a place value chart with a number written on it
Ten thousands Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones

2 1 3 1 1

6
Let the pupils give the number represented by the number discs on the chart. Let
them answer the questions that follow.

Ten thousands Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones

10000 1000 100

10 1
100
10000 10
0

1. How many ten thousands are there? Thousands? Hundreds? Tens? Ones?
2. How many digits are there?
3. What is the place value of 2? 1? 3? 1? 1?
4.Explain to the pupils about the value and place value through expanded form.
20 000 + 1000 + 300 + 10 + 1 = 21 311
5. Further discuss that the value of a digit in a number could be arrived at by
multiplying the digit by its place value as shown in the procedure below :

Digit × Place Value = Value

1 × 1 = 1
1 × 10 = 10
3 × 100 = 300
1 × 1000 = 1000
2 × 10000 = 20000

F. Application/Exercises: Differentiated Activities

1. Group the pupils in 4 Learning teams. Give each group an activity sheet
shown below. Tell them to follow directions in writing the data.
LT 1 & 2 Give the place value and value of the underlined digits using the
Place Value Chart 36 476 and 47 658
LT 3+4 Give the place value and value of the underlined digits using the
Number discs 19 353 and 34 278
2. Let the pupils present their output by reporting it.
3. How did you come up with your answer?
4. Values Infusion of Cooperation, Neatness, Creativity and Writing Correctly
G. Generalization:
1. What are the place values of a 5 digit numbers?
2. How do you determine the value of a digit in a given numbers?

IV. Evaluation:

7
Use the Place Value Chart and a Number Discs .Write the place value and value of each
digit:
1. 34 587
2. 17 840
3. 43 125
