HOW TO MAKE A REVIEW

OF A PLACE OR A TRIP?

WRITING
One of the most recurring topics in
English class is telling what we have
done this last vacation or what plans
we have for the next or simply that you
write a review of the last place or
country that you visit. I will give you
the keys to write about your vacation ,
or how to write a review of the last
place you visited and an example to
make it easier for you to start.
As in some writing, it is very important to
think about what we want to write before
starting:
1. Decide what you want to tell and make a
small sketch on which to base the final
version.
2. You can add details, but make sure the
structure is clear.
3. Everything you tell does not have to be
true. You are testing your knowledge, so if
you need to add a little interest to your
story, worry more about English and less
about accuracy.
4. Use the vocabulary and structures
you know, do not write in Spanish
and then translate.

5. This will help you practice and

increase your confidence in
situations, such as an exam or a
conversation, where you cannot use
a translator or dictionary.
A. Good writing has three parts: 1.

Introduction:

1. You can start with a paragraph as an

introduction in which you talk about your
personal experience.
2. Presenting the topic that you are going to deal
with. To start you can summarize some of the
main arguments against your point of view:
Some people argue that…, Many people think
that…, It is said that…
2. CONTENT BY PARAGRAPHS:
In the second paragraph:

Establish your personal opinion clearly and

show data, figures and examples that
support your point of view:

For example:

* According to ..., Statistics show ...

In the same second paragragh:

Talk about the advantages:

For example:

* If the price of the hotel is cheap, if it is in the main

square
* If the food is exotic or is good for its price.

Do not forget to use connectors.

For example:

To compare or contrast two things use:

Both (of them), On the one hand, in the one hand, In spite
of (the fact that), In comparison with, On the contrary
Third paragraph:

You can talk about the disadvantages.

In this paragraph you should also
conclude your review, writing your
personal opinion: if you like or if on the
contrary, you did not like the hotel, nor
the food, if the place was noisy and
dirty ...
YOUR OPINION: IF YOU RECOMMEND IT, IF
YOU DO NOT RECOMMEND IT ...

UNFORTUNATELY, OBVIOUSLY, IN MY
OPINION, I BELIEVE, I AGREE / DISAGREE
(WITH / THAT), IT SEEMS TO ME, FROM MY
POINT OF VIEW, AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED,
TO BE HONEST, I AM IN FAVOR OF, I AM FOR,
I AM AGAINST, THE WAY I SEE IT.

REMEMBER THAT YOUR REVIEW WILL

DEPEND ON THE PLACE INDICATED BY THE
EXAM AND THE DETAILS THAT YOU HAVE
TO INCLUDE ... DO NOT FORGET IT !!
EXAMPLE

MY CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS THIS YEAR WERE

SIMPLY AMAZING! I HAD TWO WEEKS, SO I
DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL: GO ON A
ROAD TRIP TO FRANCE. STATISTICS SAY THAT
FRANCE RECEIVES MANY TOURISTS AT THIS
TIME OF YEAR. I DIDN'T CARE. I HAVE SOME
FRIENDS IN DIFFERENT CITIES, SO I STAYED
WITH THEM AND I DIDN’T HAVE TO BOOK ANY
HOSTELS. IT WAS VERY CHEAP!. FIRST, I DROVE
TO BARCELONA. I DIDN’T STAY LONG, BUT I
WENT TO THE BEACH. IT WAS MILD FOR THE
WINTER, AND I EVEN HAD A QUICK SWIM!
ONE OF THE ADVANTAGES OF FRANCE IS
THAT IT IS NEXT TO SPAIN. I CAN GO DRIVING.
ANOTHER IS THAT THERE ARE SIMPLE AND
VERY CHEAP ACCOMMODATION. PUBLIC
TRANSPORTATION BY UNDERGROUND IS ALSO
VERY CHEAP. I DROVE FROM BARCELONA,
THE LANDSCAPE IS BEAUTIFUL. AFTER
BARCELONA, I WENT TO TOULOUSE. THE CITY
IS NOT VERY BIG, BUT IT IS LIVELY AND
WELCOMING. I HAD A WONDERFUL TIME.

IN OTHER HAND, AFTER TWO DAYS, I DROVE
NORTH TO PARIS. IT IS A VERY INTERESTING
CITY, BUT IT IS HUGE AND STRESSFUL. PARIS IS
VERY EXPENSIVE, THE SEINE RIVER SMELLS
BAD AND THE FOOD HAS A LOT OF BUTTER. THE
BEST IS TO BUY FOOD IN A SUPERMARKET AND
TAKE IT TO THE HOTEL. I ALSO VISITED LYON
AND MONTPELLIER. I ESPECIALLY ENJOYED THE
STREET MARKETS IN MONTPELLIER, WHERE I
BOUGHT SOME LOVELY WINE AND NO
EXPENSIVE. I HOPE I CAN DO THIS SOME OTHER
