QUESTION:
Have you ever wonder how
your body knows when it’s
time to grow? Or when it’s
time to stop growing?
ACTIVITY
THE GREAT GLAND RELAY GAME

1. Pick one student to play the role of a bone and one student as a gland.

2. The rest of the class will stand, single-file, in a line between the two. (These
students will represent the bloodstream, whose job is to carry the hormones - in
this case, the balls – from gland to the bone.)

3. When the gland calls out, “Grow, bone!” he or she will send a hormone (ball)
into the bloodstream. The hormone will get passed down the line until it reaches
the bone, who will put it in the basket. For each ball that’s put into the bone’s
basket, the bone will “grow” by standing up a little bit taller. When all the balls
have been passed down, the bone is done growing.

given activity?

that secrete different types of hormones
and affect every cell, organ, and function
of our body. It is essential in regulating
growth and development, metabolism, as
well as reproductive processes and mood.

glands do not produce the
regulated amount of
chemicals in your body?
