COUMPUTER
BY MANASWINI 11TH CLASS
ABACUS

 It is a mechanical device
 It is used for basic arithmetic operations
 It was found in the year 500BC
 It was invented by tim cranmer
 It is used since ancient times
 It is also called as counting frame
PASCALINE

 It is used to make addition and subtraction

 We can also do multiplication
on and division through repeated
addition/subtraction
 It was invented by blaise pascal
 It was found in the year 1642
 It is also called as arithmetic machine
ANALYTICAL ENGINE

 It’s a mechanical calculator.

 It can do input, process, output.
 It also has storage.
 It was invented by Charles Babbage.
 It was invented In the year 1834
CENSUS TABULATOR

 It is a mechanical tabulating machine

 It has tabulated census data
 It electromechanical tabulating machine for
punched cards to assist in summarizing
information
 It was invented by Herman Hollerith
 It was invented in the year 1890
TURING MACHINE

 It is a programmable machine
 It can stimulate any computer algorithm.
 Program input through punched cards.
 It is invented by Allan Turing in 1937.
 It’s a simple mathematical model of a
computer.
1st GENERATION COMPUTERS

 ENIAC was the 1st electronic digital computers.

 ENIAC : electronic numeric integrator and calculator.
 1st generation computers used vacuum tubes.
 They stored program concept and has machine
language.
 Disadvantages:
1. Big and clumsy
2. Produce lot of heat
3. Electric failure
 Other examples: EDVAC, EDSAC, UNIVAC- I
 They were used from 1940 till 1956.
2nd GENERATION COMPUTERS

 Used from 1956 till 1963.

 They placed transistors over vacuum tubes.
 Has machine language and assembly
language,
 Advantages over 1st gen computers:
1. Smaller in size.
2. Produces lesser heat.
3. Lower electricity consumption.
 Example: IBM 1400, 7000 SERIES,
Control Data 3600
3rd GENERATION COMPUTERS

 Used from 1964 to 1971.

 They used integrated circuits.
 Advantages:
1. Smaller, faster and more reliable
2. Lower power consumption
3. High level languages
4. Has storage up to 100 megabytes.
 Examples : IBM-360 series, ICL-1900 series.
CDC-1700
4th GENERATION COMPUTERS

 Used from 1971-Present.

 Uses microprocessors.
 Uses very large integrated circuits like LSI and
VLSI.
 Advantages:
1. Portable computer
2. High storage capacity up to tera bytes.
3. Programming in high level languages.
 Examples : Pentium, Power PC, AMD, Apple
Macintosh
5th GENERATION COMPUTERS

 They’re presently used and will be using them

in future.
 Will use super large scale integrated chips.
 Uses AI (artificial intelligence).
 Uses parallel-processing and superconductors
for better usage of AI.
 Computing devices : AI devices and Robotic
Devices.
