    The carbon cycle involves animals, plants, and the atmosphere. Animals produce carbon dioxide through respiration which is released into the atmosphere. Plants then utilize this carbon dioxide during photosynthesis, absorbing the carbon and releasing oxygen back into the air. This exchange of carbon between the atmosphere, lithosphere, and biosphere forms the carbon cycle.
