Cable & Busbar Selection Guide

Here are the key steps to select cable size according to the cable instruction manual of the manufacturer: 1. Determine the circuit current based on the load calculation and diversity factor. 2. Select the cable type based on installation condition (underground, overhead, insulation type etc). 3. 4 circuits running in metal trunking, fed to single phase supply 240V/50Hz in ambient
temperature 40°C, without insulation thermal and each circuit connected using
1C/PVC/non-armoured, without sheath. Each circuit shall be protected using MCB SP
class C. By aid following information, find adequately CSA of cable for each circuit.

Circuit 1
10 lighting points , 100W per point, 1.8 must be taken in calculation, diversity
allowance 95%,distance 20 meters

Circuit 2
8 lighting points , 100W per point, 1.8 must be taken in calculation, diversity
allowance 95%, distance 20 meters

Circuit 3
1 Hp air-conditioner, distance 10 meter PF and inrush current can be neglected.

Circuit 4
8 points for Socket outlet 13A,assume power usage per point is 500W,longer
point 10 meters

Type of Conductor.

1. Bare conductors or single-core conductors with basic insulation, for example cables
according to IEC 60227-3.

2. Single-core conductors with basic insulation and a maximum permissible conductor

operating temperature of at least 90 °C, for example cables according to


IEC 60245-3, or heat-resistant thermo-plastic (PVC) insulated cables according to
