Ito ay nangangahulugang agham o pag-
aaral ng mga mito/myth at alamat.

Tumutukoy sa kalipunan ng mga mito

mula sa isang pangkat ng tao sa isang
lugar na naglalahad ng kasaysayan ng
mga diyos at diyosa noong unang panahon
na sinasamba, dinadakila at pinipintakasi
ng mga sinaunang tao.

 Ang mitolohiya ay salitang mito/myth ay
galing sa salitang latin na mythos at mula sa
Greek na muthos na ang kahulugan ay
kuwento. Ang muthos ay halaw pa sa mu, na
ang ibig sabihin ay paglikha ng tunog sa
bibig.
Sa klasikal na mitolohiya ang mito/myth
ay representasyon ng marubdob na
pangarap at takot ng mga sinaunang tao.
Nakatutulong ito upang maunawaan ng mga
sinaunang tao ang misteryo ng pagkakalikha
ng mundo, ng tao, ng mga katangian ng iba
pang mga nilalang. Ipinaliliwanag din dito
ang nakatatakot na puwersa ng kalikasan sa
daigdig. Karaniwang may kaugnayan ito sa
teolohiya at ritwal.

 Ang mitolohiya ay isang halos
magkakabit-kabit na kumpol ng mga
tradisyonal na kuwentong mito ng mga
diyos at nagbibigay ng mga paliwanag
hinggil sa mga likas na kaganapan.
Halimbawa na lamang kung paano
nagkaroon ng hangin o mga karagatan.
May kaugnayan ang mitolohiya sa
alamat at kuwentong-bayan.

Ang mitolohiyang Griyego ay

siyang katawan ng mga mito at
katuruan ng mga sinaunang griyego
na nauukol at nagpapaliwanag ng
pinagmulan at kalikasan ng mundo
at nagdedetalye ng mga buhay at
pakikipagsapalaran ng kanilang iba’t
ibang mga diyos at mga bayani. Ang
mitolohiyang griyego ay isang bahagi
ng relihiyon sa modernong gresya at
sa buong mundo na kilala bilang
Hellenismos.

mga taga-Roma ay kadalasang tungkol sa
politika, ritwal, at moralidad na ayon sa
batas ng kanilang mga diyos at diyosa.

ang katutubong relihiyon ay napalitan na
ng Kristiyanismo.
