STRINGED INSTRUMENTS OF RONDALLA

RONDALLA- is an ensemble composed of

plucked stringed instruments introduced by the
Spaniards. These instruments are played with
a plectrum or pick. They are made from
indigenous materials of great quality, such as
kamagong wood, narra and palutsina. The
following are the instruments used in rondalla.
INSTRUMENTS USED IN RONDALLA
Bandurria- serve as the
soprano of the ensemble and
plays the melody
Piccolo- Is a smaller and is an
octave higher than bandurria. It
embellishes the music
Laud- serve as alto and has a
longer neck than bandurria. It
embellishes.
Octavina- serves as tenor and
plays the descant or
countermelody in higher tones
Guitar- plays the chords
of the melody,
intensifying the harmony.
Contra Bass- has thick
tonal quality and serve as
the bass of the ensemble.
Bandola- serve as an
enhancement of the bass
group and sounds like an
octave lower than the
octavina.
