STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
OBJECTIVE

• Identify the strengths and weaknesses of quantitative research

• Examine quantitative research through its strengths and
weaknesses.
• Demonstrate appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of
quantitative research.
• Demonstrate respect for individual ideas/contribution during
group activity
ACTIVITY: SIOMAI OR SIOPAO

Say “SIOMAI” if the statement is about qualitative research.

Say “SIOPAO” if the statement describes quantitative
 research.
1. It is applied in an effort to disprove or validate hypotheses and
theories. It is possible to establish facts that are generalizable about a
subject by conducting this kind of research.

2. Simple mathematics or more sophisticated statistical analysis is

employed to identify similarities or patterns.

3. Methods such as interviews with open-ended inquiries, observations

articulated in words, and literature studies that study concepts and
theories are utilized in carrying out this research.
4. This research emphasizes evidence that is numerical and
consistent as well as comprehensive reasoning that
converges rather than diverges from the original hypothesis.

5. The researcher seeks objective answers to a precisely

formulated question.
Process Questions:
1. Enumerate the strengths that Scarlet Witch possesses.
2. Does her strength indicate that she has no weaknesses?
Explain.
• Using the same video, what would Scarlet’s weaknesses be based
on the strengths she possesses?
• What does weakness suggest?
• Does having a weakness indicate that our strengths should be
disregarded?
• Analyze the quantitative research by using the examples that are provided
below and determine both the strengths and the weaknesses if such research
is carried out.

• 1. The Department of Agriculture (DA) and

Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
(BFAR) would like to make predictions how
contemporary methods be utilized to boost the
amount of agricultural and aquatic resources
available for human consumption.
• 2. The Schools Division Office (SDO) of the City of
Naga was surveyed to determine the number of hours
spent by its employees. Observing the employee's
arrival and departure times at the office over a period
was used to collect data for this purpose. This
quantifiable data is obtained by watching employees'
arrival and departure times. It is possible to form a
judgment about the number of hours employees spent
at the workplace based on all these facts.
