Summary
In his Ted Talk, Tim Urban talks about what exactly goes on in the mind of a
procrastinator. He says that there is a difference between the mind of a non-
procrastinator and a procrastinator. Here’s the mind of a procrastinator and then
there is the brain of a non-procrastinator. Both the procrastinator and the non-
procrastinator have a rational decision maker who just does things that make sense
and thinks long term. A procrastinator also has an instant gratification monkey in
his mind who has it all figured out; you eat when you're hungry, you sleep
when you're tired and just don’t do anything difficult. But now you would have
this question that how does the procrastinator ever manage to accomplish
anything? The answer is that there is one thing that the monkey is scared of which
is the panic monster. The panic monster is usually dormant and only wakes up
when a deadline gets too close or when there’s danger of public embarrassment, a
career disaster, or some other scary consequence.
