 To reduce the use of Fossil Fuels to generate the Electricity, Around
60-70% of electricity is generated in India is by Coal.

 As per Census by IRES (Indian Residential Energy Consumption

Survey) only 73% Indian are having electricity the rest 27% are
staying in Darkness in Rural India.

 And in few cities' electricity are given for only 12-18hrs.

OVERVIEW OF  In India per year around 1491.9 BU is generated every year (Source:-

THIS PROJECT Ministry of Power)

 Every year around 1800.06 BU is used every year.( Source:- Ministry

of Power)

 The remaining 310 BU is deficiency every year.

 By this Piezoelectric we can generate minimal electricity which can

support around 195 houses
What is piezoelectric Roads?
 Piezoelectric roads use crystal embedded in asphalt to covert
pressure and vibrations into energy.

 The crystal placed about 5 centimeter below the surface of the

asphalt, slightly deform when traffic travels across them this
produce energy.

 Theoretically, the crystal can produce 1KW/HR of electricity for

every 12 of road. To achieve this rate, the crystal must be
implanted on fast, busy roads.
Example of piezoelectric System in use
In the Year 2008, a Piezoelectric system was installed in Tokyo
by the east Japan railway Company

A piezoelectric floor in Tokyo station, pictured uses energy

from footsteps to power ticket gates.

In some Countries this piezoelectric system is used in pubs

and malls to generate electricity.
HISTORY OF
PIEZOELECTRIC?
In 1880 brothers Pierre Curie and Jacques Curie were working as
laboratory assistants at the Faculty of Sciences of Paris. They discovered
that applying pressure to crystals such as quartz, tourmaline and
Rochelle salt generates electrical charges on the surface of these
materials. This conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy is
called the direct piezoelectric effect. “Piezo” is derived from the Greek
for “to press”.

The converse effect, that the application of an electrical field to these

materials causes the internal generation of a mechanical strain, was
predicted by Gabriel Lippman in 1881, via mathematical deduction from
fundamental thermodynamic principles. This inverse piezoelectric
effect was quickly demonstrated by the Curies via experimentation.
Project of Outer Ring road Hyderabad called
Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited

 The over all budget of this road is 6700 Cr.

 In this 8-lane road of 158 Kilometers is laid.

Budget  If a piezoelectric road is laid

estimation of  The budget becomes 6800 Cr. which is only 1.5% increase in the overall budget.
piezoelectric
Roads?  Ever year 44000 kw-Hr is generated in one km in a single lane road. So, if we calculate, 158
km.* 8 lane*44000 kw-Hr.=55616000 Kw-Hr.

 In general Government of India charges Rs.5 0n an average per 1 kw-Hr. so by calculation.

 5*55616000= Rs. 270000000 (27 Cr.) • The amount invested in this returns in just 4 years

ADVANTAGES &
DISADVANTAGES
•Movement of vehicles are mostly constant on busy roads and so constant power can be
produced.
•The power generated is this concept is green power and so there is no harm on the
environment.
•This power can be used for streetlights and small-scale purposes.
•The response is very fast. Even the remote area can be easily electrified.
•It is very easy to control small displacement with the applied voltages

Disadvantages

•It exhibits high Hysteresis and creep.

•High electric field may lead to breakdown and failure.
•Maintenance of roads is difficult and constant inspections are to be made.
CONCLUSION
 Harvesting electricity

 With this electricity we can use it for street light & can also be used for traffic signals
