STRUCTURE OF

QUANTITATIVE
RESEARCH DESIGN
CHAPTER 1-3
Quantitative research designs are either
descriptive [ subjects usually measured
once] or experimental [subjects measured
before and after a treatment].
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM
Introduction
-General to Specific or Specific to
General. Last part of your introduction is
the research statement, claim, issues you
need to re/solve, why you need to solve
the problem.
GENERAL
21st generations are already part of the era that
comes about the Information Science and
Information Technology. Thus, most businesses,
companies and Universities switch to Online-
based system to provide quick method that
involves rapid development of the system.
SPECIFIC
Moreover, the institution we belong are still
using manual or paper based system that made
academic personnel tedious and inaccessible to
acquire, process, store, and retrieve documents
particularly in the Guidance Counselor…
The Effects of Online Guidance Profiling System
would be a new way of the record management
and transaction processing that would achieve
efficiency on processing students’ profile.
This research “Effects of Online Guidance
Profiling System” focuses on the students
profiling management system that was handled
by the guidance counselor to achieve efficiency
on processing students’ personal information…
Theoretical/Conceptual Framework
-When we say Theoretical Framework/Conceptual
Framework. What are the theories that will

support/help you in your study.

Operational Framework
-putting the theories that will help you in
accomplishing the study.
Operational Models
-when we say models these are diagrams…
DEPENDENT VARIABLE
INDEPENDENT VARIABLE

ONLINE GUIDANCE
PROFILING SYSTEM
EFFECTS
 Students’ Personal
 Efficiency on Processing
Information
Students’ Personal
 Minimize time Information…
 Keep records securely
 Post announcement
 Disseminate
information, etc.
Statement of the Problem
-These are the questions that you sought to
answer based on the survey questionnaires.
Statement of hypothesis(Guess/Assumption).
a statement that assumes to answer/solve the
problem.
Scope and Limitation/Delimitation
-one community/the whole school/ even
bigger. (More than 50% of the population)

Significance of the Study

-To whom your study is most important.
Important to parents, students, administrators,
community, etc.
Definition of Terms
-lists of words that are important in your
study. It could be from dictionary or
operational meaning how it is use in your
study.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE
-In state of the art. It will give introduction
how important the content of related studies.
In review of related literature sometimes
includes Local/Foreign studies at present.
-Synthesis of Reviewed Related Literature
(Summarize the related literatures gathered
that supports your studies which means
evidence to evidence
-Gaps bridged by the present study. What is
the difference of your study to other studies?
Commonly we answered, the scope of our
research.
CHAPTER III
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
Quantitative Research
 Descriptive (refers to the methods that
describe the characteristics of the variable
under study. It involves conducting a
survey and is also called Observational
Research Method).
 Correlational Research(non-experimental
research method which studies the
relationship between two/more variables
with the help of statistical analysis w/o any
attempt to influence them. The variable
relationship will be described through
Correlation Coefficient)
 Experimental (a study that strictly adheres
to a scientific research design. It includes a
hypothesis, a variable that can be
manipulated by the researcher, and
variables that can be measured, calculated,
and compared. This research is completed
in a controlled environment)
 Quasi-experimental(aims to establish a
cause-and-effect relationship between
independent and dependent variable).
RESEARCH SUBJECTS
-the sources of data.
-Who are the respondents. (Students,
Teachers, Vendors, athletes, etc.)
RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT
-the population of the study.
-How many respondents present in that area?

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
-questionnares, test paper, standardize test
paper conducted in the classroom, pupunta ba
kayo sa palengke, etc.
Research Ethics
-are the set of ethics that govern how
scientific and other research performed at
research institutions such private
school/universities, and how it is
disseminated.
-Honesty and Integrity, Objectivity,
Carefulness, Openness, Respect for
intellectual property, Confidentiality,
Responsible Publication, Legality, Animal
Care, Human Subjects Protection.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
How are you going to gather the data?
-The researcher might go to the school
conduct a standardized test.
-The researcher might gather data through
survey questionnaires.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
-After gathering the data.
-What appropriate statistical treatment are we
going to use?
-ANOVA, Chi-square test, T-test, PCC
(Pearson product-moment correlation
coefficient), two-way ANOVA, percentages.
