• The main bodies were hewn directly from the sandstone cliffs, but details were
modeled in mud mixed with straw, coated with stucco.
• These statues best exemplified the Gandharan Buddhist art , as well as the greater
cultural landscape of Buddhism and its influences during the 1st to 13th centuries
