Client brief : Stunning

hotel frontage landscape
to improve the overall
appearance as well as
resolve the ground INTERACTIVE, IMAGINATIVE, AND ARTISTICALLY
parking spaces and CRAFTED TO BECOME A LANDMARK
vehicular movement at
the same time
Concept :
With respect to the historical weaving textile industry, created sculptural-like landscape
weave and fold to reveal an aesthetically pleasing public space..
With the fact that there are massive structure of new underground metro station beneath half of our landscape
spaces, we took great care in coordination of paving patterns, manholes and planting soil depth to achieve a
simplistic design result. This includes camouflaging the four ventilation shafts and emergency staircase
structure that pops up in landscape with mirror finishes making them disappear visually, combining the design
with guard house and pole lights at both entrances.
A Series of undulating lawn stripes
represent the silk being woven - up
and down - into fabric sheets by
traditional machines. Interval space
is defined by matching the existing
lobby pillars and architectural
orders to stitch the landscape and
building together in the master
plan seamlessly integrated with the
car parking layout
Water feature stripes with sculptures are proposed
in front of the lobby drop-off as the main
welcoming elements.
Unified reflective water feature
When viewed from the public roadside, brilliant
bronze color is used to project outgoing and fun
energy signifying this urban corner
lightens up the whole hotel district with the wavy lawn
stripe

black mirror material is selected to achieve a

more calm and relaxing feeling when perceived
from the hotel side looking out
It’s a privately owned public space that
became a new gathering spot catered for
various activities from meeting up with
friends, and Instagram selfies to wedding
photoshoots. The landscape is being
perceived as a new landmark of this
intersection and draws many interests
from people in the neighborhood and
beyond.
Inference:

 Simple ground cover painting with minimal

hardscape elements that complements the
built form.

 Clearly defined public space and vehicular

movement.

 Use of juxtaposition on both the size of

plant box (calm, serene on one side –
vibrant on other side ) makes the place
interesting.

 The Angular lines of the edges of the water

body creates focus and the sense of
movement.

 The still water body with darker material

which is reflective with a sculpture creates
focus to the entrance of the hotel and
creates a calm environment.

Location : Ahmedabad
Typology : Residential landscape
Site area : 3700 sq.m
Concept : Rather than create a sense of similarity, the studio chose to approach the design of
the space as a sculptural object that lay supine in the linear space. The aim was to integrate a
sense of emotion; the idea of living.
With a series of installations, the space has been designed as a composition
of fractals.
The prominent feature within the space is a gaint metal dinosaur measuring 32
meters.

The structure functions as a play space for children. It incorporates a bridge, a slide, ladders,
and a swing. It is a bold statement that differentiates the space from not only other spaces
within the compound but also other real estate projects - lending the apartments a sense of
identity.
Away from the main court, is a court of
caves - a quiet retreat.

The studio worked with the young artist Vyom

Mehta. His public installation marks the garden
court.
At the lower end of the
plan, an entrance walk
amongst trees with a
water edge, leads to a
plaza with large trellis
structures, and then a
green court.

In all, there are 4 trellis structures,

with the largest one being 35 meters
long.
Water has been represented in
multiple styles - almost an allusion to
the many distinct spaces within the
compound. An entrance fountain is
designed as composition of petals
using handbeaten copper, brass, and
steel. Fountain systems have been
created for children to engage with.

Leaf like planters which is also used as

seatings.
Inference:

 Use of hardscape elements/

structures to create a sense of
identity to the place.

 Art installations inspired from

nature.

 It is a space that facilitates the

idea of community; of
engagement. It added to the value
of the space and the homes it had
to offer.

 Making the linear space attractive

with bold statements with
appropriate scales considering
the children.
