Competency 4.1

• Use practice experience and theory to inform scientific inquiry


and research.
Relevant Activities or Tasks

• Student will engage with professionals such as medical


providers and therapists to understand diagnosis and other
medical based or therapeutic research.
• Student will conduct necessary research to better understand
scientific inquiries.
Outcomes

• As I begin to expand in my roles as a BSW intern, I am


beginning to have contact with medical professionals
concerning clients’ cases and diagnoses. When I am unsure of
the information that I am being told, I research it so that I can
better understand the client’s case and their treatments.
• I have not yet had to engage in scientific research or inquiries.
Competency 4.2

• Apply critical thinking to engage in analysis of quantitative and


qualitative research methods and research findings.
Relevant Activities or Tasks

• Student will think critically and engage in services and resources


for clients.
• Student will engage in necessary surveys and research studies.
Outcomes

• I have not yet had to analyze qualitative or quantitative research


methods and findings thus have not had to participate in
research studies or surveys.
• I currently work with other social workers and their clients to
think critically and help engage clients in available resources.
Competency 4.3

• Use and translate research evidence to inform and improve


practice, policy, and service delivery.
Relevant Activities or Tasks

• Student will engage with medical providers to learn and


understand about their clients’ diagnoses and any concerns they
may have in order to better help their clients understand.
Outcomes

• I make contact with medical providers regarding clients’


diagnoses, document any concerns the medical providers may
have, and relay that to the assigned social worker and work with
them and their clients to better understand their diagnosis and
treatment options.
