ABACA
• A Binomial name Musa textilis, is a species of
banana native to the Philippines, grown as a
commercial crop in the Philippines, Ecuador, and
Costa Rica. The plant, also known as Manila
hemp, has great economic importance, being
harvested for its fiber, also called Manila hemp,
extracted from the leaf-stems. Abacá is also the
traditional source of lustrous fiber hand-loomed
into various indigenous textiles in the Philippines
like t’nalak, as well as colonial-era sheer luxury
fabrics known as nipís.

Bamboo
• Bamboos are a diverse group of evergreen
perennial flowering plants making up the
subfamily Bambusoideae of the grass family
Poaceae. Giant bamboos are the largest
members of the grass family. The origin of
the word “bamboo” is uncertain, but it
probably comes from the Dutch or
Portuguese language, which originally
borrowed it from Malay or Kannada.[3]

Buri
• The largest native palm species
found in the Philippines, with
trunks attaining a diameter of 1
meter, height of 20 meters, and
with large fan-shaped leaves from
which buri braids and raffia are
made.

Nito
• Nito vine or lygodium circinatum
is a plant belonging to the fern
family that grows abundantly in
many parts of the country.
Clinging to trees and rocks, nito is
a vine growing as a secondary
forest cover mostly in low and
medium altitudes.

Pandan
• Pandan, also known as
screwpine, is a tropical plant
prized mostly for its long, blade-
like leaves. It’s a popular
ingredient in many Sri Lankan,
Thai, and other South Asian
dishes.

Ratan
• Rattan is a product of the palm
plant; it is a type of vine that
climbs up the trunks and
branches of trees in the jungles
of South East Asia. A close
relation to bamboo, rattan is the
second-fastest-growing material
(after willow) for furniture
production, regenerating within 5
to 7 years.
