INTRODUCTION

⮚APEDA is a government agency in India that promotes exports of


agricultural and processed foods.

⮚It was established by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,


Parliament approved the Act in December 1985,came into effect
from 13th February.

⮚APEDA has served the agricultural export community and has


established 5 Regional Offices in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad,
Kolkata, and Guwahati.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
⮚ Development of enterprises related to scheduled export items by financial support .

⮚ Fixing norms and specifications for scheduled items in order to export them.

⮚ Inspection of meat and meat products in slaughterhouses, processing factories, storage


facilities, conveyances, and other sites where such items are held or handled in order to
ensure their quality.

⮚ APEDA also functions as the Secretariat to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for
implementation of accreditation of the Certification Bodies under National Programme for
Organic Production (NPOP) for organic exports.

⮚ Promotion of export oriented production and development of the Scheduled products.


Latest Initiatives
Peanuts and peanut products
APEDA took initiatives in paperless processing and implemented online issuance of Certificate of Export
(CoE) for peanut and peanut products through digital signature. Therefore, APEDA has issued 8696 CoEs
during April to September 2017. It is pertinent to mention that about 90% CoEs were issued on the same
day with the implementation of the paperless processing of CoEs.

Digitalization of registration and issuing of certificates


APEDA also implemented paperless filing, processing and certification of Peanut and Peanut Products
(PPP) unit registration system. APEDA issued 36 nos. of PPP unit registration certificates after inspection
and recommendation of the inspection Committee and following the procedure prescribed procedure.
While 15 certificates were issued after amendments in the Unit registration as per request of the units.

Training programme on "Export of Peanut”


APEDA organized an Awareness cum Training programme on "Export of Peanut” at Dhule, Maharashtra
on 19th May,2017. The area has more than 60 Peanut Shelling Grading units working at domestic level. It
was the first program organized by APEDA in Dhule, Maharashtra to educate them about the Procedure
for Export of Peanut and Peanut products. Officials from MSAMB, State Agriculture and PPQ were
present in the program. More than 100 participants attended the program.
MPEDA
The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) is a statutory body established
in 1972 under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry for the promotion of marine products
export from India. We have been guiding and supporting the seafood industry of the country to
produce and process quality seafood and market it.
MPEDA is the nodal agency for the holistic development of seafood industry in India to realise
its full export potential as a nodal agency. Based on the recommendations of MPEDA,
Government of India notified new standards for fishing vessels, storage premises, processing
plants and conveyances. MPEDA’s focus is mainly on Market Promotion, Capture Fisheries,
Culture Fisheries, Processing Infrastructure & Value addition, Quality Control, Research and
Development.
Major Functions of MPEDA
1. Registration of infrastructural facilities for seafood export trade.
2. Collection and dissemination of trade information.
3. Promotion of Indian marine products in overseas markets.
4. Implementation of schemes vital to the industry by extending assistance for infrastructure
development for better preservation and modernized processing following quality regime.
