Ph and conductivity of solutions
AIM:
• Find ph.values and measure solutions
conductivity.
Procedure:
• Ph meter was used with NaCl, NaOH, acetic acid
and HCL.
• Conductivity meter was used with different
concentrations of same solution then conductivity
is measured.
RESULTS:
Unknown solution pH value Acid or base Sample Concentration Conductivity

1 8 g/100 L 70.2
NaCl 6.77 Approximately neutral
2 4 g/100 L 35.3
NaOH 12.3 Basic
3 2 g/100 L 19.95
Acetic acid 3 Acidic
4 1 g/100 L 12.42
HCl 1.2 Acidic
5 0.5 g/100 L 6.43
Clock reaction
AIM:
• Determination of the rate constant and order of the sulphite-iodate reaction.
Procedure:
1. Acid sulfite solution should be prepared using 2 grams of starch, mixed with 10 ml water

and added 100 ml of boiling water.

No. of flask First series Second series 2. Let the solution cool, use a 250 ml flask with 25 ml water and add 1 ml of sulfuric acid

4. Pour solution in flask carefully then fill it with distilled water.

5. 100 ml of 0.02 potassium iodate solution is prepared.

Then stopwatch is used after adding iodate in both till, they are 100 ml
and time is calculated till it turns blue.
RESULTS:
• by plotting graphs and getting slope and intercept it was
found that the order of the reaction was 2.73, K in the first
graph was 0.0001 and 0.00109 in the second one.
Hydrolysis of esters in basic solution
AIM:
• find the rate constant and the half
lifetime of the reaction.
Procedure: For calculations:
1. 100 ml of 0.1 N of each of Na2CO3, HCL and NaOH are prepared.

2. Original A is 12 ml.

3. Dilute 100 ml of N/40 HCL, N/20 and N/40 NaOH. 1. Tabulate results of x, A-x and x/a-x in the table.
4. 100 ml of N/20 ethyl acetate is prepared.

5. Using pipette, 50 ml of the N/20 ethyl acetate and NaOH is transferred to two separate

3. Get the slope which equals AK then divided by original concentration to get K which
6. Add base to ester quickly, mix and record timing.

7. Remove 10 ml of the mixture which is reacting, record time and run to a flask with 100

ml water distilled and 10 ml N/40 HCL then titrate the excess in presence of

phenolphthalein.

8. Last step is repeated till 80 mins to fill the table by doing multiple titrations.

RESULTS:
• K is calculated from its slope and
t1/2 is calculate by using t1/2= 1/K *
Va so that k was found to be 6.08*10-4
and t1/2 was 197.3 minutes.
Conclusion
• Ph and conductivity of solutions.
The experiment discusses the pH values and conductivity of solution using pH meter to
differentiate between four different solutions to detect whether they are acidic or basic
then a conductivity meter is used to measure the conductivity of solution at different
concentration levels were it was found that by dilution the conductivity decreases
• Clock reaction.
The aim is Determination of the rate constant and order of the sulphite-iodate reaction by
preparing different volumes of sulphate and two series with different iodate volumes, by
plotting graphs and getting slope and intercept it was found that the order of the reaction
was 2.73, K in the first graph was 0.0001 and 0.00109 in the second one.
• Hydrolysis of esters in basic solution.
The aim is to find the rate constant and the half lifetime of the
reaction where a certain procedure was followed by preparing
certain concertation of each used substance then adding them so
that the reaction occurs across a certain timeline where titration
should be done several times to know x values then a graph is
plotted between x/a-x and time so that K is calculated from its
slope and t1/2 is calculate by using t1/2= 1/K * Va so that k was
found to be 6.08*10-4 and t1/2 was 197.3 minutes.
