What is the chemistry?
Is the study of properties, composition, and
structure of the matter.
 What is the matter ?
Matter includes the material things in the universe,
and its defined as any things has a volume and
occupies space.
Branches of chemistry
There are five branches of chemistry
1. Organic chemistry
Deals with the compounds of carbon
Examples of carbon compounds
 Petroleum.
 Plastics.
 Woods.
 2. Inorganic chemistry
Deals with all elements and the compounds
that are not defined as organic compounds
Examples of inorganic compounds
 Sodium chloride.
 Calcium carbonate.
 water.
Example in elements.
 And all the elements in periodic table can be discussed under this type
of chemistry.
 Like:

 H2 , Li and Na.
 Be and Mg.

 B and Al.

 C and Si.

 N2 and P.

 O2 and S.

 F and Cl.

 He, Ne and Ar.

 Au, gold. From Latin world Aurum.

 Ag, silver. From Latin word Argentum.

 Eu, Europium.
U , uranium.
 3. Analytic chemistry
Involves finding which elements or compounds are
present in a sample, and how much is present.
This branch is applicable for:
 Discovering an elements or compounds.
 Finding the properties of especial plant by

analyzing its enzyme.

 Criminal investigations.
 4. Physical chemistry
Deals with the properties of a element or a
compound, especially quantitative.
This branch is applicable for:
 Describing the properties of the matter, like:
 Temperature.
 Pressure.
 Density.
 Color.
 Conductivity.
 5. Biochemistry
Deals with the chemistry in living things.
This branch is concern about.
 The food components like:
 Carbohydrates.
 Proteins.
 Vitamins.
 Lipids.
 Minerals
 and water.
Chemistry in action
 The chemistry is a necessary for:
 Industrials
 medical.
 Quality control.

 Example,
 Manufacture of Clothes.
 Manufacture of Foods. Milk, sugar, biscuit, oil.
