Plane Strain Problem
• Problems involving a long body whose geometry and loading do not vary significantly in the
longitudinal direction is referred to as plane strain problems.
• In these cases, a constant longitudinal displacement corresponding to a rigid body
translation and displacements linear in z corresponding to rigid body rotation do not result in
strain.
