TDW COMPANY HISTORY

1920 Founded in by T. D. Williamson

(as the Petroleum Electric Company)
1930’s Addressed the needs of oil & gas
industry developing many of the machines
or processes commonly used in piping maintenance
around the world today.

1942 Pipeline operators asked TDW to help

maximize efficient crude oil flow in the War Emergency Pipelines.
Developed and manufactured the first modern pipeline scraper,
also known today as the pipeline pig.

1948 Shortly after the war, TDW began to develop other tools
engineered for pipeline maintenance. TDW was approached to
implement
a tapping machine idea - TM Models 200, 300 and 600 were born.
4
TDW COMPANY HISTORY

1952 TDW patented the STOPPLE® Plugging

Machine, the world's first successful plugging device.

1960s Developed the SHORTSTOPP® Plugging

System for plugging low pressure and
medium pressure piping common in gas
distribution systems

1970-90s TDW continues to expand number of

industries it serves throughout the world,
setting dozens of industry records.

13
Hot Tapping

A hot tap is the procedure for cutting or

drilling an opening into a pipe that is
carrying product under pressure
Hot tapping allows access to the inside
of an operating pipeline without
shutdown or spillage
Coupons can be removed, with
deformities intact for integrity testing

Stopple Line Plugging

22
Double Stopple w/ Temporary Bypass

23
Stopple Line Plugging

A plugging system which is designed to stop flow through a

line while equipment installation, maintenance work or
repairs are being made.

A plugging head is inserted into the line through a fitting and

flow is stopped and/or redirected
through bypass piping.

Implies plugging a line, through a previously

tapped hole.

24
Typical Stopple Machine

The STOPPLE Plugging Machine

consists of three major sections:
Hydraulic cylinder or jackscrew
plugging head housing
plugging head

Sizes: 1” - 54”
Pressures: 2200 psi (size dependant)
Temperatures: 1000F
