Acknowledgement
We would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude
to Mrs. Bhavna Arora, our English teacher
who always gave us valuable suggestions and
guidelines for completion of this project. Our
project had been a great success because of
her assistance and our hard work on this
project.
OBJECTIVES
“NET DRUGGED” is a project based on the present scenario of social media
addiction and its impact on current generation. Statistics show that there are 4.55
billion social media users around the world in October 2021, equating to 57.6
percent of the total global population. Surveys show that ninety percent of teens
ages 13-17 have used social media. Seventy five percent report having at least
one active social media profile, and 51% report visiting a social media site at
least daily. On average, teens are online almost nine hours a day, not including
time for homework. There are positive aspects of social media, but also potential
risks.
Social media is blurring boundaries, increasing transparency and creating fluidity
in everything we do. However, by developing addictions, creating scams and
spreading antisocial messages, social media can prove to be harmful to mankind
on the other side.

It provides us an ample opportunity to present a play in our school on one such

burning issue our generation faces. We listen to many audio and video programs
ACTION
PLAN
This project has been completed after following
different steps.

We carried out a study based on the influence of

social media addiction on our generation. We
scripted the drama and rectified and modified it
with the backing of our teacher.

The second part of the project was the

enactment of the drama in our class. We did
several dummy run before the actual
presentation all these help us to develop our
communication skills.

PROJECT REPORT

We penned a short play and enacted it in the classroom as part of

our ALS group Project. The same script is given here for your
evaluation. We did enough homework before staging the play in
front of our friends and our guide. We learnt all the dialogues and
done rehearsals for the play that made the performance a successful
one.
We selected a relevant topic for our one act play and developed it
into a stageable presentation. The theme of this drama is teens
overusing social media and getting addicted to it. Stats shows that
on average, teens are online almost nine hours a day, not including
time for homework.
Abstract
Checking and scrolling through social media has become an increasingly
popular activity over the last decade. One of the most crucial
disadvantage of social media is isolation of young people. Even if
teenagers communicate with other people, they do this via their mobile
phone or computer. They lose all contact with the outside world and
become addicted to the internet. On average, teens are online almost
nine hours a day, not including time for homework. “NET DRUGGED”
is a project based on the present scenario of social media addiction and
its impact on current generation. The play not only showcases the
problem of overuse of social media by teens but also provides with
solution to this problem.
SCRIPT
NetDrugged: Reasons and Treatment of Social Media
Isha and Aditi were among the mostAddiction
promising students from their school in a small
town. They would study together, participate in various competitions and bring many
laurels home. The sisters had immense interest in journalism, which led to a habit of
sharing the latest information and news with each other. Proud of their consistent
performance and excellent results, their mother gifted them mobile phones.
Mother~ Isha! Aditi! Come here, look at what I've bought for you!
Isha~ What is it mom?
Mother~ Unwrap your gifts and find out for yourself!
Aditi~ (Exclaims giddily) Oh! Personal mobile phones for both of us? I’m so happy!
Both~ (Shout together grinning) Thank you so much Mom!
Mother~ Of course my darlings! Use them wisely. They will be helpful to you in your
studies and to keep in touch with your friends. Promise me that you will use them
appropriately.
Isha~ We promise.
But Isha and Aditi were tempted by the world of social media which engrossed
their attention.  They failed to keep their promise. They soon began to spend hours at
an end creating videos and taking pictures to upload online. The thrill of being able to
have so much information at your fingertips, being a click away from engaging with
people all over the world and the prospect of becoming popular, or even famous
through your social accounts lured the two and caged them without anyone noticing
and before anyone knew, they were addicted to this new hobby.
One day in the morning,
Mother~ Isha! Aditi! Come on! Your food is ready, be quick otherwise you’ll be late
for school again!
Aditi~ Mom, I'm coming in a mere minute!
Isha~ Yes mum please, I have to upload a new picture today or else my followers will
be disappointed.
Mother~ That is not an excuse to forget eating and be late to school! Give me your
mobiles now!
Aditi~ Aw, come on mother, why are you being so uptight? Besides, it is our life.
They both obliged half-heartedly and went to school.
Even in an educational environment, all their thoughts revolved around the
state of their accounts and how they could increase their follower count. They
couldn’t pay attention to what was being taught. Their friend Riya whispered in an
attempt to converse.
Riya~ What has happened to you two? You didn't join us in the group chat last night
Isha and you haven't posted anything on instagram in three days, Adi!
Isha~ What should I tell you Riya, mum is completely adamant on not letting us live
our lives and use our phones to our desire!
Aditi~ She keeps scolding us whenever she sees us using mobile phones.
Riya~ Well, I couldn’t care less about your mother’s absurd stubbornness. You two
should join us tonight on group chat anyway or you’ll lose followers.
Both~ We will try.
The teacher noticed the trio talking and kicked them out of the class.
Teacher~ I am teaching an important topic here and three of you are babbling about
social media! Not the time or place. Get out of my class.
They Later in the evening the teacher calls Isha and Aditi's Mother.
Teacher~ Mrs. Sharma, I want to bring your attention to the deteriorating
performance of your wards in studies. In fact, I heard from the school team coach that
Aditi is not doing well these days and can lose her place in the school basketball
team. I guess this is because both of them are obsessing over social media. Today,
they were talking about it in class while I was teaching.
Mother~ You are right ma’am. I have observed their uncanny behavior in the past few
weeks, and it must be because  both of them keep their eyes glued on their phones all
the time.
Teacher~ You must do something about this soon otherwise both of them would have
to face dire consequences.
Mother~ I'll see what I can do about it, thank you for informing me.
At night while having dinner:
Mother~ Kids, I have a task for you.
Isha~ What is it mom?
Mother~ You two have to maintain a log book for a week in which you will note how
much time you spend on each activity daily.
Aditi~ What is the need of doing this?
Mother~ You'll come to know in a bit.
From the next day, they did as instructed and found that they spent more than 8 hours
on their phones.
Isha~ Aditi, look, my screen time was 9 hours yesterday and hardly any time in
studying.
Aditi~ Mine was similar. I feel so unproductive.
Isha~ I feel the same; we are spending too much time on social media. We must find a
solution for this.
Aditi~ You are right, let's set a limit on mobile usage time.
Isha~ For now let's keep 4 hours after which we’ll keep the phones on silent mode.
At This was how both of them gradually minimized time wastage on
social media and decided that only wise use of social media will be done.
The result of this change in them was that both of them performed well in
exams and Aditi was now made the captain of the school basketball team.
Other students also followed by example.
Isha~ Why don't we make two separate groups on WhatsApp, one for
homework and other for sharing local news and latest information?
Aditi~ Great idea! This way, we can help each other with homework as well
as keep ourselves updated with important news and information and
segregate the two of them.
Isha~ I'll work on it today itself!
Because of their initiative, students started discussing studies and career options with
more vigor on social media. Aditi and Isha's social media information outlet- 'News
on the Go!' was applauded by students and teachers alike. They were praised by their
teacher in front of the whole school.
Teacher~ Students, Aditi and Isha should be an inspiration to you. Children, on an
average, waste 8+ hours a day on social media and copy homework from Google.
One should only use search engines for increasing knowledge and not for plagiarizing
others' work from the internet. Ethical use of social media resides in our hands. Social
media is a blessing for us as it is easy to use, cost-effective and one can interact with
family and friends instantly. However, it doesn’t take much to quickly turn into a
curse by engulfing your priorities and making it seem as if it is all life encompasses.
The responsibility is on your shoulders.
