MASS MEDIA
WHAT IS MASS MEDIA?

-MASS MEDIA REFERS TO A DIVERS ARRAY OF

MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES THAT REACH A LARGE
AUDIENCE VIA MASS COMMUNICATION.
Where did mass media first emerge?
The first high-circulation newspapers arose
in London in the early 1800s, such as The Times,
and were made possible by the invention of high-
speed rotary steam printing presses, and
railroads which allowed large-scale distribution
over wide geographical areas.
THE 4 TYPEES OF MASS MEDIA
OUTDOOR MEDIA
It typically consists of any advertising seen
outside of the home, and is primarily
grouped into a few specific categories.
Billboards, posters and transit to name a few.
PRINT MEDIA
Print media is one of the oldest and basic forms
of mass communication. It includes newspapers,
weeklies, magazines, monthlies and other forms of
printed journals. A basic understanding of the print
media is essential in the study of mass
communication.
BROADCASTING MEDIA

The term 'broadcast media' covers a wide

spectrum of different communication methods
such as television, radio, newspapers,
magazines and any other materials supplied by
the media and press.
DIGITAL MEDIA
Unlike traditional media, digital media is transmitted
as digital data, which at its simplest involves digital
cables or satellites sending binary signals –– 0s and
1s –– to devices that translate them into audio,
video, graphics, text, and more.
WHO IS THE FATHER
OF MASS MEDIA?
