VALUE INCULCATION

(INCULCATION OF THE VALUE OF CO-OPERATION AND TEAMWORK IN THE


STUDENT OF 9TH CLASS)

VALUE INCULCATION
• Inculcation is the instilling of knowledge or values in someone, usually by
repetition. To inculcate is to instill or impress an idea on someone. Teaching is
basically a form of inculcation: teachers repeat information to students, hoping
it will sink in. In the same way teachers inculcate values in students, and this is
known as value inculcation.
• Value inculcation programs play very important part in the school curriculum
as it provides right direction to the students and enlighten them with the values
of the society. So it is necessary to inculcate values in student to help them
lead a good and prosperous life.
CLASSIFICATION/TYPES OF
VALUES
• Plato classified values based on ultimate realities. These are:-
I. Truth
II. Beauty
III. Goodness
These are also the basic values of life enunciated by the Indian thinkers as Satyam, Shivam and Sundaram.

• Walter G. Everett in his book ‘Moral Values’ classified human values in the following eight group
I. Economic values
II. Bodily values
III. Recreation values
IV. Values of association
V. Character values
VI. Aesthetic values
VII. Intellectual values
VIII.Religious values
DAY:- 1
To conduct the inculcation program we will visit a school to introduce the students to
the concept of values, so they can understand the importance or significance of the
values.

• At first, I will introduce myself to students and then further we will move on to their introduction.
So I will make this part interesting by performing a fun activity. I will ask a random student to
come over and will give him a word and will ask him to use that word while introducing himself
in such way that it looks part of the introduction and then tell him to pick any student and
similarly give a word to him and ask him to use that word in his introduction and so on. I hope
this activity will help student to feel at ease with me and to take interest in the class.
• Then after introduction I will ask students about values and will take their point of view on this
concept. After that I will make them understand the concept of values by explaining the literal
meaning of this concept which is that basically values are collective conceptions of what is
considered good, desirable, and proper or bad, undesirable, and improper in a culture.
Therefore we can say that anything that helps to differentiate between something
good and bad or helps us sustain in our lives and the society, which gives us a
code of conduct to live our life is a value.
So this way students will have better learning because with participation we take
more interest in a concept and this makes learning process much easier
Day:- 2 (CO-OPERATION AND
TEAMWORK)
On my 2nd day, firstly I will ask a question from the whole class that if I ask
them to submit a project on model making the very next day, would they
like to do it individually or in group and why?
• Most probably the students will take project in group because it will need
less efforts and work will get done more efficiently.
Then I will introduce the topic of ‘Co-operation and Teamwork’ and
explain the meaning of these terms and how they are interlinked with each
other. So term teamwork can be defined as cooperative effort by the
members of a group to achieve a common goal.
• I will tell them that when they put efforts together and with full co-operation
which means willingly to achieve same goal that is known as teamwork.
• I will make them understand this thing better by giving them example of sports
or games we play in groups or activities we perform together like cricket; in
cricket all the players must play together to make sure their team wins the
game. They support each other and have an understanding between them. This
makes them trust each other and builds a bond between them.
To help our group or team win we must work in unison.
Then I will assign homework to all of them that they will make a table and write
down the names of the sports we play in team and individually.
Day:- 3 (STORY)
• On 3rd day I will check the homework first that I gave them the previous day and will
give remarks accordingly and then after that I will tell them a story based on teamwork
and co-operation, which will help them to understand these values properly.

• A Wise Old Goose


Once upon a time there lived a flock of goose on a tall tree. An old goose among all of
them was very wise. One day he saw there is a creeper growing at the foot of the tree. He
informed other geese about it and advised them to cut it as it can cause danger to them in
future, but nobody listened to him and said that how a small creeper like that can harm
them. Days passed by and now that small creeper grew all around the tree and became
stronger. One day a hunter climbed up the tree and realised it was home of geese, so to
catch the birds he spread his net on the tree. When geese returned, they got trapped in the
net. They tried a lot to free themselves but in vain. Finally they realised their mistake and
apologised to old goose and asked for help.
So old wise goose suggested that when hunter will come back, they all will
pretend to be dead and hunter will throw them on the ground and when the last
goose will land on the ground, they all will fly away. Next day the plan was
executed in the same manner and all the geese were free from that net and from
the hunter.

• Without teamwork and without the co-operation of all the geese that plan
would never have been successful. So that’s how I will make students
understand the importance these values.
Day:- 4
• On the 4th day of the inculcation, I will ask some situation-based questions from all
the students based on the concept of values I taught them to ensure that they
understood the concept of co-operation and teamwork.
Questions that will be asked from the students are as follows:-
1. What do you think is better working individually or in group? Why?
2. What are the benefits of working in a team?
3. Which other values you learn while working as a team?
4. What will they do to help the weak students in their class to get better grades?
I will listen to their responses and make sure that every student answer the questions.
Then I will assign them a homework in which I will ask them to write down about
their experience as working in a team.
Day:- 5
• On the 5th day of inculcation firstly I will listen about their experiences that I asked
them to write about in their notebooks. After that I will divide the class into few
groups and will give each group a puzzle and ask them to solve it. This will be a time-
based task.
Whichever group will solve the puzzle first will be awarded.
• This task will make students to work as team and this will strengthen the bond
between them. They will learn to trust each other and will also learn that working as
team divides the workload.
• Through this activity students will also enhance their communication skills and will
understand that anything can be done efficiently if it is done with co-operation and
with understanding.
This activity will also help them to refresh their mind and will encourage them to
participate in such kind of activities more often.
Day:- 6
• On the last day of value inculcation program I will form new groups and will assign
each group a topic on which they will prepare their own story and then will perform a
skit in front of the whole class.
• This activity will also help me to check their creativity and it will also enhance their
imagination skills.
• This will be a fun activity as students will get a chance to use their creativity and they
can frame their own story which can be of any genre like comedy, tragedy etc.
• Through this activity they will learn that how a skit is incomplete without its character
in the same way, a team is complete without its member.
This will be an amazing activity as all the students will be working together to form a
great story and all the groups will be ranked according to their performance.
CONCLUSION
Such kind of programs helps the students to get better knowledge of values and
they get detailed information on the concept of value.
These kind of programs also helps teachers to propagate the values effectively
among the students and strengthens the bond between student and teacher.
