Beliefs of Myanmar
● As much as 90% of the Burmese population practice
Buddhism, making it the main religion in Myanmar.
Buddhism in Burma is attached to the Theravada
branch which is the oldest and more conservative
branch of Buddhism, following the Buddha’s
teachings, without modification. Buddhism does not
have a creator god like other religions and it does not
contain theories either. It is a doctrine, a philosophy
based on the teaching of the Buddha contained in the
Four Noble Truths: 1) The truth of suffering; 2) the
cause of suffering; 3) the cessation of suffering and;
4) the path that leads to the cessation of suffering.
Beliefs of Myanmar
● Christianity is the second largest religion in Myanmar,
making up around 8% of the population. Many of the
ethnic minorities in Myanmar are Christian, such as
the Chin, the Kachins, the Karen and the Naga. This
Christian presence dates back to the time when
European and American missionaries came to settle
and evangelize Myanmar. In the 19th century, many
tribes who had been treated as inferior due to their
animistic beliefs, such as the Chins, converted to
Christianity.
Beliefs of Malaysia
• Malaysia is a multicultural and multiconfessional country, whose
official religion is Islam. As of the 2020 Population and Housing
Census, 63.5 percent of the population practices Islam; 18.7
percent Buddhism; 9.1 percent Christianity; 6.1 percent Hinduism;
and 2.7 percent other religion or gave no information. The
remainder is accounted for by other faiths, including Animism,
Folk religion, Sikhism, Baháʼí Faith and other belief systems.[2][3]
The states of Sarawak, Penang and the federal territory of Kuala
Lumpur have non-Muslim majorities.[4][5] Numbers of self-
described atheists in Malaysia are few; the state has come under
criticism from human rights organisations for the government's
discrimination against atheists, with some cabinet members saying
that "the freedom of religion is not the freedom from religion”

• Colonialism also brought other art forms, such as Portuguese
dances and music. During this era, influences from the
Portuguese, Dutch, and British were also visible, especially in
terms of fashion and architecture in many colonial towns of
Malaya and Borneo, such as Penang, Malacca, Kuala
Lumpur, Kuching, and Jesselton. Despite the influences from
abroad, the indigenous art of Malaysia continues to survive
among the Orang Asli of Peninsular Malaysia and numerous
ethnic groups in Sarawak and Sabah.
