Wound bed preparation begins with cleansing and
requires attention to both cleansing agent and the
technique.

The approach to cleansing and the appropriate agent

are determined by the stage of healing as determined
by the wound assessment.
Wound cleansing helps optimize in the healing
environment and decreases the potential for
infection. It lossens and washes away cellular debris
such as bacteria, exudate, purulent material and
residual topical agents from pervious dressings. Most
wound should be cleansed initially and at each
dressing change.
