MATRICES IN BUSINESS
A decision matrix can help you not only to make complex
decisions, but also prioritize tasks, solve problems and craft
arguments to defend a decision you have already made.

• Matrix were used to solve economic problems, which involves
methods at which goods can be produced efficiently.

WHEN APPLICATION OF MATRICES ISNOT APPROPRIATE?

• Example
When we are finding time of a ball which is thrown
upwards, we are unable to use matrix there. As we know that ball thrown
upward will definitely return to the ground.Going upward and then
returning to the ground will square the “t” of time then quadratic equation
will be applicable here not matrices. In this case t will become t² here we
can not use matrix mathod to solve it.The quadratic formula is applicable
in this situation.

• For example, following is a matrix with two rows and three columns.
This is often referred to as a "two by three matrix", a "2×3-matrix", or a
matrix of dimension 2×3.

Arrangement Matrix is a rectangular array of numbers.it has Equations are in linear forms. We keep equal values
numbers arranged in rows and columns. in equation. It is called maintain equality relationship.
Uses of graph These are used for plotting graph. To avoid linear graph, it is used preferably.
Daily life use Electronic circuits, quantum mechanics, Calculates age of person, speed, distance and time of
resistor conversion of electrical energy, moving objects.
represent new world data like population of
people and infant mortality rate etc.
31
DEMERITS OF MATRIX
The main disadvantage of matrix is that it can not be used to solve equations
which have imaginary roots.
The arithmetic operations like multiplication become very difficult when it
involves matrices.
A matrix is not capable of depicting non-linear transformations since they are a
linear structure.
It does not really help you identify the real or complex numbers which are
solutions of the quintic equation.
Note that matrix arithmetic is associative but not generally commutative. As a
result it is expressive enough to provide natural representations of quaternions,
but not octonions.
• Matrices are linear operators. That is, they represent linear transformations.
They are not capable of expressing non-linear transformations.

MATRIX IN BIOLOGY:
For Example:
• In the circulatory system the red blood cells are constantly being
destroyed and replaced. since they carry oxygen throughout the body
their numbers are fixed. we can use matrix multiplication to find out the
level of red blood corpuscles in a person.
35
MATRIX IN CHEMISTRY:
• Matrix used in solving chemical equation. An alternative
method is to use matrices to determine the coefficients of
a balanced chemical reaction through solving a system of
linear Diophantine equations.
For Example:
• Balancing Chemical Equation: NO+O2 NO2

MATRIX USED IN POLITICAL SCIENCES:
For Example:
• Political scientists use math and statistics to predict the
behavior of a group of people. ...
• Political scientists study the population using many different
applications of math, including computer science, database
management, statistics, and economics.
