Definition of blended according to experts

Blended Learning is learning that mixes learning technology and

traditional ways to achieve an educational goal.

Other definitions of the learning model will be explained in detail

and in full by the following experts :

1.Driscol (2002) explains the notion of Blended learning

which is a learning which combines or combines various
web-based technologies to achieve educational goals.
2. Dwiyogo (2012) describes the meaning of blended learning,
which is a learning model that combines face-to-face with
technology-based learning which can be accessed online and
offline. This learning model has similarities with e-learning.

3. Thorne (2013) describes blended learning as a mixture of e-

learning and multimedia technologies, such as streaming video,
virtual classes, online animated texts combined with traditional
forms of learning in the classroom.
4. Graham (2005) explains that blended learning is simply a learning that combines
online learning with direct learning, namely face-to-face.

5. Mosa (in Rusman, 2011) explains that blended learning combines two main
elements, namely learning in the classroom with online learning (online learning).
In this online learning using the internet network in which there is web-based
learning. This learning utilizes multimedia technology such as video streaming,
virtual classes, email, etc.

Characteristics of Blended Learning

Combining Various Ways of Delivery

The first characteristic, this method combines a variety of conventional or offline learning
models with online learning. Actually, this is not a new method but rather a complement
1 to the online learning method aka e-learning.

Combination of Live Teaching

The blended learning method is also computer-based learning. That means, in

applying it, you must take advantage of a technological approach by combining
various face-to-face learning resources. The media used are cellular phones,
2 computers, video conferencing, and so on.
Combination of Effective Teaching and Learning Style

With the combined learning method, students will be more motivated to be able
to carry out various learning activities independently. They can also ask
1
3 questions easily through discussion forums both to teachers and other students.

Teachers and Parents Have the Same Role

The next characteristic of combined learning is that teachers and parents have
the same role. This method will be the best choice and solution to increase
4 effectiveness and efficiency in teaching and learning activities.

Benefits and objectives of
blended learning
BLENDED LEARNING

Benefits of Blended Learning :

1. Different people learn different things in different ways
2. Using multiple modalities dramatically reinforces engagement, learning
and retention
3. Learners can control the pace of their learning
4. Blended learning saves money
5. Blended learning is modular and scalable
6. Increased Customization and Personalization
7. Greater Flexibility
BLENDED LEARNING
The objectives of blended learning
are:
1. Helping students to develop better in the learning process, according to learning styles and preferences
in learning.
2. Provide practical, realistic opportunities for educators and students for independent, useful, and growing
learning.
3. Improved scheduling flexibility for learners, by combining the best aspects of face-to-face and online
instruction.
4. Face-to-face classes can be used to engage students in interactive experiences. While the online portion
provides students with multimedia content that is rich in knowledge at any time, and anywhere as long as
students have Internet access.
5. Overcoming learning problems that require completion through the use of varied learning methods.
PART 4
The advantages of blended
learning
The advantages of blended
1. Save cost and time learning
A mix of traditional and distance classes can help students save on transportation costs. You can also use the
remaining time for other activities.
2. Make it easier to do activities
The blended learning system also makes it easier for students to manage their time between work, study, and
other activities. Students can still go to class even if they have to work out of town.
This system is also suitable for students who have other activities, such as working in the morning or afternoon.
Students do not need to go to campus in the afternoon or evening.
3. The material is more diverse
Combining the two learning methods means using more diverse materials. This method allows lecturers and
students to learn using materials other than books, such as videos, e-books, and podcasts. In addition to being
more interesting, students and lecturers can share their insights by utilizing this more diverse material.

4. Adjust to the level of comfort
The blended learning method helps students determine the most comfortable position and conditions for
learning so that the results are maximized.
5. The mentoring system is more complete by lecturers
In the traditional learning system, students tend to be able to quickly get guidance from the lecturer when in
class, but not all can attend physical classes. On the other hand, remote classes are often less supportive of
getting direct feedback from lecturers because the format consists of many screens.
Students who cannot attend physical classes can do the same if they attend online classes. With these two
advantages, students can customize their class lists and study strategies to get maximum learning outcomes.
6. Safer for health
Extraordinary conditions such as a pandemic make physical interactions more risky, especially for students and
lecturers with certain health conditions. This learning system reduces risk because it reduces face-to-face
learning time.
PART 5
The application of blended
learning method
Application of blended learning methods

One example of the application of blended learning is when students

learn to use two approaches at once. That is , students use to methods
of learning systems, online and also offline.
