Mobile Generations

Mobile Generation

There have been so many general

providing better service with every
generation
First General of Mobile
First generation :
Was completely analog communication system .

Low speed (2kps).

Less number of customers.

Only voice service no Data service .

TECHNOLOGY : FDMA
FDMA :Frequency Division Multiple Access

The customers are served used frequency division.

The telecom company use frequencies assigned by

telecommunication authority.

Usually organised by telecommunication ministry

on each country.
Every institution , organization ,
telecommunication company or governmental
agency should used only assigned frequency.
Using somebody's frequency is a crime punished by
law .
Using others frequency will cause interference ,
DOS attacks , and eavesdropping .
Modern governmental instruments can locate the
source of interference easily
Second Generation 2G

GSM:
Stands for Global System for Mobile :
Digital System …Voice Quality
Voice + Data .
Ability to send SMS message
Low speed (9.6-64 kps)
TDMA Technology
TDMA: Time Division Multiple Access

Every frequency is divided into 8 timeslots.

Every timeslot is considered a channel.
This expands system capacity 8 times .
Still there is great need for channels .
GSM use the concept of frequency reuse to
provide more channels and better use of
frequencies given by ministry of
telecommunications.

The same frequencies should be used in far

distances to avoid interference .
2.5 G
Is called GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)

Voice + Data + Internet .

Medium speed

Media sending possibility .

Third Generation
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access)–
UMTS ():

Very large number of users (millions ).

High speed.(sending audio and video online )

High security .

Power Control.
3rd generation all users share the same frequency.
It separate every user by multiplying the call with
unique codes.
This code is only used for the single call users.
Codes are infinite and very secure .
All calls look like noise except the user call.
Very secure and efficient.
Its only problem is moderate internet speed.
Forth Generation
LTE (Long Term Evolution) :

Very high data rate 5 -200 Mbps

Complex and advance technology

Can be deployed in every network (LAN /WAN/MAN ..)

Fifth Generation 5th G
Very high speed > 1Gbps

Very complex technology

4G+next generation of internet technologies
