Remote Prerequisites: Customer

 Rack all nodes.

 Cable all nodes for power and turn them on.

— Dell nodes can take between 20 and 60 minutes to become available after they’re first turned on.

 Cable the nodes for network.

 Configure and turn on the network switch ports.

 Set the BMC IP address on every node.

— Keyboard and monitor are required.
 Verify remote IP address connectivity from planned networks.

 Document rack elevation with block serial numbers in the provided questionnaire.

 Verify the integrity of downloaded binaries from consultant-provided MD5 checksums.

Remote Prerequisites: Consultant

 Provide primary and alternative method for imaging nodes (CVM-based, standalone VM, or Portable Foundation).

 Verify the hardware and software configuration with the compatibility matrix.
— We recommend against deviating from the compatibility list.

 Provide direct links to the following binaries and MD5 checksums:

 AOS (OS that runs in the CVM)
 Hypervisor
 Foundation (software used to image the servers)
 Foundation hypervisor allowlist
 Foundation platforms bundle
— You can’t provide VMware binaries as it violates legal agreements. You may provide links.
— Dell and HPE require custom VMware ISOs from manufacturers.

BoM, Equipment, and Delivery Dates Review

o [Insert BoM from NetSuite]

o [Estimated date hardware will be available once delivered]

• [Inventory, customer prep, delivery to site, etc.]

Site Preparation: Rack

PROJECT KICKOFF | CONFIDENTIAL

Site Preparation: Nutanix-Supplied Power Cables

Available Power: 200 V or 110 V

Note: Power supply failure may not
work with 110 V.

Site Preparation: Third-Party Power Cables

Site Preparation: Networking
10 GbE cables
SFP+ transceivers
No FEX

Site Preparation: Network Layout

o Nutanix recommends redundant top-of-rack switches in a traditional leaf-spine architecture.

o Nutanix nodes in the same Nutanix cluster should reside on the same layer 2 network segment.

o Other network layouts are supported as long as all other Nutanix recommendations are followed.

o Copper versus optical fibre: Our nodes support connections with SFP+ copper Twinax Cable, Optical
Fibre, or Copper 10GBASE-T. Previous generations support SFP+ copper Twinax Cable and Optical
Fibre.

Site Preparation: Switch Configuration

o Nutanix recommends using fast convergence technologies (such as Cisco’s PortFast) on hypervisor-
connected switch ports.
o Trunk VLANs that support hypervisor management traffic, Nutanix CVM traffic, and user VM traffic
on all Nutanix connected 10 GbE and 1 GbE ports, except IPMI.
o If you use the optional 1 GbE ports for user VM connectivity, please follow the hypervisor
manufacturer’s switch port and networking configuration guidelines.
o Nutanix recommends using access and untagged ports for IPMI because they’re simpler to manage.

 Switch cables
• Hardware version compatibility
 Note: You must meet minimum system requirements for selected hardware.
• IP conflicts
 Can we use the environment validation tool?

o Is there wireless or internet in the datacenter?

o Is a switch permitted in datacenter?

o Is remote access available?

• Deploying Microsoft SCVMM
• Configuring third-party OEM software for hardware alerts isn’t included and needs to be configured by customer of the
vendor (KB 10738).

o Verify Go and no-go criteria:

• Power, racks ready
• Network cabling ready
• Network switch ports configured
