• Land is considered as the most important component of earth system as it is


the immediate victim of all sort of human activities

• land is being used with an increasing intensity to meet the needs of the
growing population

• land use and land cover change has become the central ccomponent in current
strategies for managing natural resources and monitoring changes in the
current system
VULNERABILITY

• vulnerability refers to the degree of loss to a given element at risk at a


certain security level

• it also denotes the ability of a society to anticipate and cope with and
recover from the impact of a natural hazard
STUDY AREA

• Nedumengad taluk is a taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district in kerala

• It is situated in the eastern part of Thiruvananthapuram district

• There are 25 villages and one municipality

• It has a population of about 645326 with a population density of 696


sq km
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

• To examine the land use change of Nedumengad Taluk

• To understand the factors affecting land use changes in nedumengad


taluk

• To understand the land use and Land degradation ,Loss of


Biodiversity ,Ground water Level,pollution and soil healthwhich
increases the vulnerability

• Survey of India 1:50,000 topographic maps

• Google earth web application ,Satellite Imageries ,Geological survey


of India ,Soil survey of organization report ,kerala grounwater report
