OKEEEE
• Copper is a reddish orange, soft metal that takes
on a bright metallic luster.

• It is malleable, ductile, and an excellent

conductor of heat and electricity – only silver has
a higher electrical conductivity than copper.

Characteristics
Copper surfaces exposed to air gradually tarnish
to a dull, brownish color.

• If water and air are present, copper will slowly

corrode to form the carbonate verdigris often seen
on roofs and statues.
• Copper is tough, ductile, and malleable material that
makes copper extremely suitable for tube forming, wire
drawing, spinning, and deep drawing.
• Other key properties:
1.Excellent heat conductivity
2.Excellent electrical conductivity
3.Good corrosion resistance
Properties 4.Good biofouling resistance
5.Good machinability
6.Retention of mechanical and electrical
properties at cryogenic temperatures
7. Non-magnetic
Some of the application:
• Power transmission lines
• Architectural applications
• Cooking Utensils
• Spark plugs
• Electrical wiring, cables and busbars
• High conductivity wires Applications
• Electrodes
• Heat exchangers
• Refrigeration tubing
• Plumbing
• Water-cooled copper crucibles
Facts about
Copper The chemical element copper is classed as a
transition metal. Of all the metals, copper is the
one most likely to be found in its native state,
often released by the chemical reaction of its
ores.
World Copper Reserves
Indonesian Copper Production (2020)
Copper is one of the few materials that
can be recycled repeatedly without any
loss of performance. There is also no
difference in the quality of recycled
Copper is 100%
copper (secondary production) and
mined copper (primary production), thus Recyclable
they can be used interchangeably.

Health Effects of Copper

Long-term exposure to copper can cause irritation of the nose, mouth

and eyes and it causes headaches, stomachaches, dizziness, vomiting
and diarrhea. Intentionally high uptakes of copper may cause liver
and kidney damage and even death. Whether copper is carcinogenic
has not been determined yet.

Environmental Effects of Copper

Copper does not break down in the environment and because of that it can
accumulate in plants and animals when it is found in soils. On copper-rich
soil only a limited number of plants have a chance of survival. Due to the
effects upon plants copper is a serious threat to the productions of
farmlands. Copper can seriously influence the proceedings of certain
farmlands, depending upon the acidity of the soil and the presence of
organic matter. Despite of this, copper-containing manures are still applied.
