Analyze Learners

 This lesson is intended for Grade 5 class.

 This class has a population of 36 students
 There are 10 boys and 21 girls in the class.
 The learning styles in the classroom vary from auditory, visual and kinetic

Entry Competences

 Students should be able to round decimals to the neasrest hundreths and thousands

Learning Styles

 Students learning styles vary from auditory to visual and also kinetic kearners. In order to ensure
that the students actually learn, each styles must be considered.

State Standard and Objectives

Students should be able to:

Cognitive:

Given two or more numbers the students will be able to identify the place value with 100%
accuracy

Psychomotor:
Given the word problems the students will be able to locate the place value being ask with 100%
accuracy

Affective:

In a group, students will be able to participate in the activities of the lesson with 100% accuracy

Select Media Materials and Materials

 Projector:
The teacher will use the projector to allow the students to view the examples of rounding
decimals to the neasrest tens and hundreths.
 Marker Pen:
This will be used to write some examples in the white board and solve the given problems.
 Whiteboard:
This will be used to write the solution in answering some examples and activity.
 Computer/ laptop:
His will be used to run slides on the overhead projector.
 Speaker:
This is used for the students to hear clearly the video clip presented.

Utilize Media and Material

 The teacher will ensure that the computer and projector is compatible and the teacher preview
the textbook and reference books for the activity to ensure that the activities and worksheet are

Greetings

Good morning class. Good morning ma'am .

Okay class, you may now take your sit.

Checking of attendance

Who is absent today? None ma'am.

Very good...

Everyone, before we proceed to our topic lets

have first a "classroom rules "

First, if someone is talking in front please listen

Second, do not talk if your idea is not related to

the topic.

Third, if your attention is called please

participate. Yes, ma'am.
Understood !....

Before we formally proceed to our lesson for

today, I will show you first a video presentation.
Yes, ma'am. (Smile)
Are you ready ?
One student answer , (From the video, I observed
After watching a video what have you observed ? that it is all about rounding decimals and the place
value)

Exactly, and that is our topic for today about

"rounding decimals" One student read the definition on the PowerPoint
By the way what is rounding decimals ? presentation.

Yes, in rounding decimals there must be a place

value ?

What is place value ? One students read again the definition on the
And now, that you have already an idea about PowerPoint .
rounding decimals, I will give you an example.
Among the eight planets in the solar system, One students read the example.
mercury is the smallest and closest to the sun with
an obital period of about 88 days, seen from the
earth, it appears to move around it's orbit in about
116 days. Which is much faster than any other
planet . This rapid motion may have led to it being
named after Roman deity Mercury, the fast-foying
messenger to the God's . Mercury revolves around
the sun at a speed of about 48.8692 km per
second. Round this number to the nearest tenths,
hundreths and thousands.

And now, we will solve this problem.

Nearest tenths:

48.8692

Think: 6>5. So, round up

Add 1 to the digit in the rounding place

Drop all digits after the rounding place

Answer: 48.9

Class, did you follow me? Yes, ma'am.

Understood!..

And now I will give some example for you to

understand more .

Round to the nearest hundredths:

48.8692

Think: 9>5 So, round up

Add 1 to the right in the rounding place.

And drop all digits after rounding place.

So what is the answer?

Student raused her hands, ma'am the answer is
Very good.. give her three claps. 48.87
Students clap their hands, (clap,clap,clap)

Another example:

Round it to the nearest thousands:

48.8692

Think: 2<5, So, round down

Drop all digits after the rounding place

Who wants to answer ?

Yes rosebel ? Rosebel raised her hands,

Correct, give her a five claps The answer is 48.869

Students clap their hands

Since, you already know how to round a decimal

numbers. We will have a group activity, I will group
you into 3 groups . And the group 1 will answer the
first item, and the group 2 the second item and the
group 3 is the last item.

Okay, go to your groups and form a circle and

discuss with each other . Yes, ma'am .

General instructions: Each groups are given a task

after answering you will choose a presentor to
present your output.
