Carrier transport
Ways Carriers (electrons and holes) can change concentrations

• Current Flow:
1. Carrier Drift: charged particle motion in response to an electric field.
2. Diffusion: Particles tend to spread out or redistribute from areas of high
concentration to areas of lower concentration

•Recombination: Local annihilation of electron-hole pairs

•Generation: Local creation of electron-hole pairs
1. Carrier Drift:
• The drift velocity increases with increasing electric field and contributes to
the mobility μ of the carriers.

• The drift current follows Ohm’s law and is mainly influenced by the external
field and charge carrier concentration.
