Insulating materials
? What the insulating does mean 

Insulating : a material that reduces or prevents the transmission of 

.heat or sound or electricity

What does insulating materials made from and
? what it is principle
Insulators used for high-voltage power transmission are made from glass, porcelain 
.or composite polymer materials
used in electrical apparatus. In smaller transformers , generators, and electric motors,  
.insulation on the wire coils consists of up to four thin layers of polymer varnish film

Insulation materials are generally constructed so that they trap still air in small pockets 
within the material. Air is a poor conductor of heat and the pockets are so small that
.the air cannot move; which means that heat transfer by convection is minimised
Which insulation is used in high voltage
?cables
?What are 4 materials that are used for electrical insulation 
Electrical Insulator Materials 

.Styrofoam 

.Plastic 

.Wax 

.Rubber 

.Dry air 

.Glass 

.Ceramics 

.Rubber 

Modern high-voltage cables use polymers, especially polyethylene, including cross-linked polyethylene 

.(XLPE) for insulation
What is the best material for high voltage
installation?
SF6 gas is commonly used. It has high
dielectric strength and is chemically stable
up to a gas temperature of 1800 K.
Moreover, SF6 has a withstand voltage of
approximately 8 kV/mm
Can a current pass through an insulator at
?a very high voltage
Yes, current can pass through an insulator at a very high voltage. In an 
insulator ,electrons experience too much force (by nucleus of the
atom) ,which make it insulator. But when the electron gains sufficient energy
it excites and becomes free to move .This energy is gained from high
voltage. it creates electric field, which apply force on the electron
