WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?
• Design thinking is human-centric.
• Human-centred design is a problem-solving
technique that puts real people at the center of the
development process.
• Design thinking relies on our ability to be intuitive,
to recognize patterns, to construct ideas, that have
emotional meaning & functionality in media other
than words or symbols.
UNDERSTANDING DESIGN THINKING THROUGH
“PADMAN”
• The story of Padman revolves around the social stigma and taboos that surround” menstruation”.

• Women and girls face discrimination, they were supposed to sit outside their homes during
“menstruation”, they were not allowed to visit religious places & were not allowed to do any
household chores.
• The women were considered impure during these days.
• During menstruation, women used unhygienic methods and are not even scared of the
complications of using dirty rags which can lead to infections, cancer & can even lead to death.
• People termed these 5 days for women as “test match”

• The woman was concerned more about money and not her safety. That was the reason she
denied using a sanitary pad, which was not affordable for them.

MARKET

• TAM:- Total Available Market is the total market demand for a product or
service.
• SAM:- Serviceable Addressable Market is the segment of the TAM targeted by
your products and services which is within your geographical reach.
• SOM:- Serviceable Obtainable Market represents the portion of the SAM that
can be realistically captured and served. in the next 3 – 5 years.
The Market size in the” Padman” movie is any girl who reaches the age of puberty to
any woman near her menopause. In India, 60%(approx.) of women aged 15-24 use
sanitary napkins, and 40% (approx.) of women still use dirty cloth. To make it to 100%
