Introduction

Every year, Pakistan extracts nearly

88,261.73 barrels per day (as of 2016). To
reach such high numbers, there are many
local and international companies that
operate here.

Today we will be looking at 3 of these

companies, and how they operate, and which
OB practices are used by them.

Schlumberger
MI Swaco
• Schlumberger is the worlds largest oil extracting company, with a workforce
of 92,000 people and a yearly revenue of 23.6 billion USD.
• Schlumberger believes in maintaining a diverse and an Equal work
environment for all its employees, and it does that by maintaining a special
helpline where anybody can report anyone and set an investigation in
motion.
While the company looks good on paper, the company struggles to retain
senior employees because of their policies.
• The company operates on a merit-based strategy where every decision is
based upon what's right for the company only, employee value is relatively
low in Schlumberger.

Weatherford
• Weatherford operates in 75 countries with a workforce of 17,200 and the
annual revenue of 3.6 billion USD.
• Like Schlumberger, Weatherford doesn’t just generate revenue by offering
drilling services, they innovate new ways of making clean energy for the
masses.
• Weatherford is a US based company that proudly shows off their innovative
ways of drilling and exploring for oil and gas.
• Weatherford believes in empowering its employees with confidence and
voice. The company has a democratic leadership style which prefers to
involve everyone to have a set of opinions, which sometimes also backfires
and makes taking a decision slightly difficult.

Pakistan Petroleum
Limited
PPL
• Being the only local company, PPL operates in a slightly different way than
the others. While PPL’s sister company operate in 54 European countries,
Pakistan Petroleum Limited only operates in Pakistan with a work force of
5,607 and the annual revenue of 6.07 billion USD.
• PPL believes in serving the nation, therefore the policies they rely on is open
door for all employees. They have built a level of transparency which has
help them become the largest local oil manufacturing company in Pakistan.

ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR 9
Suggested strategy
Schlumberger
Schlumberger needs to respect its long-
term employee and treat them with
respect. Currently, with how
Schlumberger’s policies are set up, its
very easy for it to lose its senior
employees.
Employee-Happy environment should
be Schlumberger’s goal and to achieve
it, SLB needs to pay their employees
better.

ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR 11
Weatherford
The seniors in Weatherford are happy,
the juniors however, must deal with
whatever the seniors say. The respect
imbalance is the real issue at
Weatherford.

Pakistan Petroleum
Limited
The only issue the employees have here
are the slim timelines. The company
needs to either,
1) Train their employees to be more
efficient,
2) 2) Hire more people to balance the
workload or
3) 3) Ask for a broader timeline.
