This document discusses a study on soil stabilization using human hair and bamboo fibre. The objectives are to analyze the effect of these fibres on soil strength properties like unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California bearing ratio (CBR) value. Literature on previous studies exploring soil improvement with these materials is reviewed. The methodology will involve collecting soil samples and fibres, conducting index tests, and preparing samples at optimum moisture content with different fibre percentages for CBR and UCS testing to find the optimum fibre content for maximum strength improvement.

Soil stabilization is the process which involves
enhancing the physical properties of the soil in order to improve its strength, durability etc. by blending or mixing with additives. We are making the use of bamboo fibres and human hair fibres for soil stabilization. Human Hair Fibre (HHF) Bamboo Fibre LITERATURE REVIEW TITLE, AUTHOR DESCRIPTION

International Journal of •Soil samples were treated with
Innovative Research in different percentages of Bamboo Technology fibre (0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1.0%). Soil Stabilization Using Geosynthetic Material (Bamboo •CBR test, Unconfined Compression Fibres) Strength (UCS) test, Standard proctor test and durability test are conducted. Vivek Kakadiya, etal •Strength of the soil has increased with the increase in percentage of bamboo fibres, when compared to that of shear strength of soil tested without fibre. OBJECTIVES
To analyze the effect of inclusion of human hair and
bamboo fibers in soil
To determine the improvement in UCS and CBR value
of soil using human hair and bamboo fibers
To compare the CBR values of soil with fibres and
without fibres PHASE-1 • A certain amount of soil samples is to be collected. • Laboratory tests for index and engineering properties Of soil is to be conducted. • The length of these human hair fibres varies from 5 to 50 mm in 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, and 2.5% percentages. • The bamboo fibres used are having diameters of 3 to 6 mm and length less than 20mm and are to be added with 1.20%. • Soil sample was collected from the banks of Kavvayi river at the stretch near Thrikaripur. • Bamboo fibre was collected. • Tests for finding properties of soil sample are done. Properties of Bamboo Fibre Table 1. Properties of Bamboo Fiber Sl. No Properties of bamboo fibre 1 PH 5.72 to 6.61 2 Colour Yellowish gold Tests for soil properties • Oven dry method for Water content • Specific gravity test with pyconometer • Proctor test for Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) and Maximum Dry Density (MDD) 1. Oven dry method Weight of soil sample before drying (W1)= 6.414 Kg
Weight of soil sample after drying (W2) = 6.292 Kg
Water content, w = (W1-W2)/W2 × 100 = 1.94%
2. Specific gravity test Weight of Pycnometer W1 = 0.629 Kg Weight of Pycnometer + dry soil W2 = 0.931 Kg Weight of Pycnometer + soil+ water W3 = 1.704 Kg Weight of Pycnometer + water W4 = 1.473 Kg
Specific gravity, G = (W2-W1)/((W2-W1)-(W3-W4) = 4.253
3. Proctor test Observations
Weight of mould = 5054 g
Volume of mould = πd²/4 × h= π×10²/4 × 12.73
= 999.811 cm³ =1000 cm³ Water content – Dry density graph Result
Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) = 15.8%
Maximum Dry Density (MDD) = 1.58 g/cm³
PHASE-2 • Samples are to be prepared at the OMC and MDD with different percentages of fiber content are mixed to the air dried soil. • CBR test and UCS test are to be conducted for soil with and without fibre. CONCLUSION •This project aims at stabilization of soil using bamboo fibre and human hair. •Soil samples with different percentages of fibre will be tested to find the optimum percentage. •CBR test and UCS test will be carried out to find the soil strength.
