CYBERBULLYING:

AS AN EMERGING EVIL IN PAKISTAN

CYBERBULLYING:
Cyberbullying is:
“The use of electronic communication to

bully a person,typically by sending a message of an

intimidating or threatening nature..”


EVOLUTION IN THE DEFINITION OF
CYBERBULLYING:

● Directors of Cyberbullying Research Centre: Dr. Hinduja & Dr. Patchin defined
cyberbullying in 2006 as:

“WILLFUL & REPEATED HARM INFLICTED THROUGH THE USE OF


COMPUTERS, CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES..”

● American Article Author, Robin Kowalski, in 2014, defined cyberbullying as:

“THE USE OF ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION TO BULLY OTHERS”


AWARENESS OF CYBERBULLYING:
Charlie Chaplin says:

“MY PAIN MAY BE THE REASON FOR SOMEBODY’S


LAUGH,BUT, MY LAUGH MUST NEVER BE THE REASON FOR
SOMEBODY’S PAIN..”

Worth saying, for, hurting anybody for any reason is not humane at
all!
AWARENESS OF CYBERBULLYING:
● Bullying has become very common and is exercised widely, be it
ONLINE or OFFLINE.
● People need to understand that online harassment DO HAVE AN
ONLINE IMPACT!
● ANNA MARIA CHAVEZ,an American inspirational speaker
says:

“UNLESS OR UNTIL OR SOCIETY RECOGNIZES


CYBERBULLYING FOR WHAT IT IS,THE SUFFERING OF
THOUSANDS OF SILENT VICTIMS WILL CONTINUE..”
AWARENESS OF CYBERBULLYING:
● The cruel online predators do not give a 2nd thought
before ruining someone’s life & leaving them affected
mentally.
● As a result, people becomes
the victim of depression.
SIGNIFICANCE IN PAKISTAN:
● With the increase use of DIGITAL MARKETING platforms we can see
many business prospering along with the advantages of social media
marketing
● There have been seen many negative things as well,one of which is again,
CYBERBULLYING.
● Unfortunately, this thing is quite common in pakistan as well.
● This is due to SOCIAL MEDIA FREEDOM.
● Social media happens to be the biggest platform of such abuse form of
technological accessibility as there is no stringent censorship of the content
shared online platform.
WHY DO BULLIES BULLY?
● Reason is because of the various issues of the society. They could be:
➔ Social issues
➔ Family issues
➔ Cultural issues
● Families which are not warm and loving towards their children,
● Families which do not share feelings with each other are the which
PRODUCES BULLIES IN OUR SOCIETY.
● POWER,however,is also the reason. People with power have ZERO
tolerance that is why they bully. THEY CANNOT HANDLE REJECTION.
SIGNIFICANCE IN PAKISTAN:
STATISTICS:
According to the Digital Rights Foundation(DRF),based on the
statistics collected via their Cyber Harassment Helpline,

PUNJAB accounts for the “bulk” of the cases.


The DRF data depicts:
● 4 Months of operation: 513 queries made via helpline
● Total 535 calls answered
● Out of which 62% were women.
SIGNIFICANCE IN PAKISTAN:
DRF data also revealed that,

“FACEBOOK WAS FIRST ON THE


LIST OF SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITES
WHERE PEOPLE FACED THE MOST
HATRED & HARASSMENT…”
SIGNIFICANCE IN PAKISTAN:
DRF found that the majority of the complaints were
related to

➔ Fake profiles
➔ Unauthorized use of information
➔ Blackmailers
➔ Hacking of social media accounts.
LEGISLATIONS AGAINST CYBERBULLYING:
“Where There Is Crime. There Is Law…..”
Law Article Of Pakistan:
Prevention Of Electronic Crime Act 2016:
“Whoever with dishonest intention gains unauthorized access to
any information system or data, shall be punished with imprisonment
for a term which may extend to 3 months or,with fine which may extend
to fifty thousand rupees or with both”
(Chapter 2, clause 3)
LEGISLATIONS AGAINST CYBERBULLYING:
The act provides penalties for:
➔ Unauthorised or non sensual transmission
of private data

➔ Use of hate speech


➔ Electronic forgery
➔ Electronic fraud
➔ Identity theft
➔ Unauthorised issuance of sim cards
➔ Cyber terrorism
LEGISLATIONS AGAINST CYBERBULLYING:
The act ensures that a legal procedure is followed :

1. Complaint should be filed with National Response Centre For Cyber Crime
2. Followed by the Investigation into the matter
3. punishment

PENALTIES: range from

➔ Minimum for Rs. 1 Million + few months in jail


➔ To over Rs. 10 Million + upto 20 years in jail
