 It is designed to assist end user in accomplishing a variety of tasks i.e. productivity,
creativity and communication.
Forms of Application Software

 Word processor
 Web browser
 Presentation program
 Spreadsheet
 Simulation Software
 Graphic Software
 Excel
 Software suit
 Multimedia software
Package Software

 Packaged software is a collection of programs that perform similar functions or have

similar features.
 For example, Microsoft Office includes multiple applications such as Excel, Word, and
PowerPoint. Video and audio editing software may also be available as packaged software,
used for editing music and video files used in a movie.
 Some programs included in packaged software may be available for purchase individually.
However, purchasing packaged software is often cheaper than purchasing each software
program separately.
Custom Software

 Customized software is software that is specially developed for some specific

organization or other user. As such, it can be contrasted with the use of software packages
developed for the mass market, such as commercial off-the-shelf software, or existing
free software.
 It is also known as bespoke software or tailor-made software.
 Custom software development aims at a narrowly defined set of requirements.
Shareware Software

 Shareware is commercial software that is distributed free to users, eventually either

requiring or encouraging users to pay for the continued support of the software.
 The format allows software developers to get their products into the hands of potential
users for a test run, in hopes that they decide to purchase the fully functional version of the
program.
 For example; WinZip, Adobe Acrobat, Skype, Fireball, GetRight
Freeware

 Freeware is any copyrighted software, application or program that may be freely

downloaded, installed, used and shared. Such programs are available for use at no cost to
general end users.
 Generally, freeware is a concise and limited version of a larger and paid software program.
 For example; GIMP, Pixlr, Free studio.
Public Domain Software

associated with it. It is free and open-source software that can be publicly modified,
distributed or sold without any restrictions.

software.
Open source software

 Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is released under a license in

which the copyright holder grants users the rights to use, study, change, and
distribute the software and its source code to anyone and for any purpose.
 For example; Linux, VLC media player.
Web Application

 A web application is application software that runs on a web browser, unlike software

programs that run locally and natively on the operating system (OS) of the device. Web
applications are delivered on the World Wide Web to users with an active network
connection.
 For example; online forms, g-mail, yahoo, spreadsheet, word processor.
Productivity Software

 Productivity Software is application software used for producing information such as
documents, presentations, worksheets, databases, charts, graphs, digital paintings,
electronic music and digital video.

 Productivity software is one of the reasons people use personal computers.
 For example; Microsoft office, Open office, Zoho.
Software suit

 A application suite is as a group of different but inter-related software programs that are
combined and packaged together.
 An application suite generally consists of two or more software programs delivered within
a single executable and installable file.
 An application suite is also known as a software suite, utility suite or productivity suite.
 One of the best-known software suites is Microsoft Office, which includes Word, Excel,
PowerPoint and other programs depending on the version.
Graphic And Multimedia Software

graphics may be clip art, web graphics, logos, headings, backgrounds, digital photos, or
other kinds of digital images.

one system to another. Such software provides remote access to systems and transmits files
in a multitude of formats between computers.
