1. Give an Example of a Software Applications (5 points)

The most common application software that is widely used nowadays are: Microsoft word, that
allows you to write , read and edit documents; Google chrome, that allows you to browse the
web and read articles about the web; Skype, an application to communicate with other people
all over the internet using voice calls, video chats, and text messaging; VLC media player, that is
under the category of media players and used to play most types of media files; Photoshop. One
of the most popular images editing application software tool; Facebook, used to connect with
friends using internet; Netflix, a software that allows you to stream movies and films from your
desktop or phone and more.

2. What are the fundamental types of software applications (3 points)

Utility software, Integrated software, specific application software.

3. Give the definition of the fundamental types of software applications (7 points)

Utility software – designed to help analyze, configure, optimize, or maintain a computer. It’s
core function is to provide additional facilities to carry out tasks that are beyond the capabilities
of operating system, one of the example of this fundamental type is Anti-virus.
Integrated software – it is a collection of software designed to work similar programs. One
popular example of integrated software package is Microsoft office which contain programs
used in an office environment like excel, outlook, word and power point.
Specific application software – This is the single applications that are developed to perform one
defined task or purpose. It could be games, word, processors, analytical engines, newsfeed and
more. Example of this is POS machine, ATM system and cashier registers system.

4. What are the Components of a Software Products (8 points)

Programs, System utilities, Command Shell, System Services, User Interface, Logical level of
Operating System, Hardware level of Operating System, Graphics Engine.
